No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2013-04-11 / This study aims to understand the perceptions and feelings of adolescents raised by grandparents. It searches, specifically to: 1) describe the teenagers ' perception about their grandparents, their feelings for them and the relationships established with them; 2) describe how they understand the biological parental figures, their feelings for them and their relationships with them; 3) to understand the experience of adolescents about the fact that they are raised by the grandparents; and 4) describe the family concept for them. It is a qualitative research of exploratory and descriptive type, which used a semi-structured interview script. Six teenagers were interviewed (between 15 and 18 years old), resident in Teresina, PI and who were raised by grandparents. The results suggest a very positive vision about the raising received from grandparents, a debunking of the "abandonment" by biological parental figures, as well as the active role of third parties (aunts and uncles, stepfathers and brothers) in the raising of the teenagers. The arrangement of corresidence (grandparents, biological parents, stepfathers, uncles/aunts and brothers) was an alternative solution found by teens families to adjust to non- expected changes during the family life cycle, such as pregnancy and divorce. This fact was seen as positive by teenagers who reported ties of affection and solidarity among the different members of their family. It is emphasizing the importance of understanding the adolescents family raised by grandparents from a systemic perspective, which considers the quality of relationships between the various members of the family core. Keywords: grandparents; adolescence; family; raising children. / Este estudo tem como objetivo conhecer as percepções e os sentimentos de adolescentes criados por avós. Busca-se, especificamente: 1) descrever a percepção dos adolescentes sobre seus avós, seus sentimentos por eles e as relações estabelecidas com os mesmos; 2) descrever como percebem as figuras parentais biológicas, seus sentimentos por eles e suas relações com os mesmos; 3) compreender a experiência dos adolescentes acerca do fato de serem criados pelos avós; e 4) descrever a concepção de família para eles. Trata-se de uma Pesquisa Qualitativa do tipo exploratória e descritiva, que utilizou um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada. Foram entrevistados seis adolescentes (entre 15 e 18 anos), residentes em Teresina, PI e que foram criados por avós. Os resultados sugerem uma visão muito positiva acerca da criação recebida pelos avós, uma desmistificação acerca do abandono pelas figuras parentais biológicas, bem como o papel ativo de terceiros (tios e tias, padrastos e irmãos) na criação dos adolescentes. O arranjo de corresidência (avós, pais biológicos, padrastos, tios/tias e irmãos) foi a alternativa encontrada pelas famílias dos adolescentes para ajustarem-se às situações de mudanças não esperadas durante o ciclo de vida familiar, como a gravidez e o divórcio. Esse fato foi visto como positivo pelos adolescentes que relataram laços de afeto e solidariedade entre os diferentes membros de sua família. Conclui-se ressaltando a importância de se compreender a família dos adolescentes criados por avós a partir de uma perspectiva sistêmica, a qual considera a qualidade das relações entre os diferentes integrantes do núcleo familiar.
