. / Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens pv. flaccumfaciens (Cff) cause the bacterial wilt of common bean, disease recently observed in State of São Paulo, Brazil. It is a vascular colonization pathogen, difficult to be controlled, and the resistant cultivars utilization is the best control method, followed by crop rotation and health seeds use. This work evaluated the in vitro inhibitory action of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli and Fusarium spp. over Cff and its effects in the resistance induction to the bacterial wilt in common bean plants, cultivated in vases with substrate infested with Fusarium spp. It was also evaluated the effects of seed treatment and spraying through the use of acibenzolar-S-methyl, on common bean plants, in the resistance induction to disease under greenhouse conditions. Peroxidases and polyphenoloxidases activities, and total soluble protein level were observed in the leaf and stem. The results showed that Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli and Fusarium spp., cultivated on paper-filter discs on agar medium, inhibited the in vitro Cff growth, and the Fusarium spp. isolates were not efficient to induce resistance to bacterial wilt in common bean plants. The acibenzolar-S-methyl seed treatment (25, 50 and 75 g a.i./100 Kg of seeds) was prejudicial to germination and vigour, and it did not induce resistance to disease; spraying bean plants with 250 mg a.i./mL was phytotoxic, while with 100 mg a.i./mL it did not cause phytotoxicity, being either inefficient to induce resistance to bacterial wilt in the susceptible cultivar (IAC Carioca), spraying before or after inoculation, or to increase the resistance in cultivars with different levels of resistance (IAC Carioca Akytã and IAC Carioca Pyatã); the acibenzolar-S-methyl spraying (100 mg a.i./mL) increased the peroxidases activity in leaf and stem, as well as the polyphenoloxidases and total soluble protein level in the stem.
