ABSTRACT It aims to demonstrate that the Brazilian magazines photonovellas presented information on the sociocultural, Behavioral and geographic context when the period of its circulation, is also supporting document as having informative content for your reading public. For the conceptual aspects of the photographic image, we adopted as the theoretical foundation Roland Barthes work (1915-1980), who cited the photonovella as a carrier of meaning and possible source of study. For the methodological approach, of qualitative approach, we followed the Bardin content analysis, which combined with Barthesian semiotic method allowed us to identify and analyze the themes explored in the material, as the geographical representation and the representation of women. The techniques used have involved documentary and bibliographic research for the development of historical procedure, enabling the production of photonovellas relate to the context of their production. The sample consisted of thirty-five stories photonovellas of Sétimo Céu magazine (Bloch editor), published in the period between the decades from 1960 to 1980, which were read and highlighted the passages in which address messages with information content. The option for publishing Sétimo Céu is because it is recognized as the only magazine to regularly produce photonovellas in Brazil, using local actors and scenarios and addressing regional issues, but other titles have been exploited for general understanding of the phenomenon. The survey results revealed that, interspersed between fictional narrative and the diegesis, various information about the surrounding reality came to the reading public through a general phrase composed of photographic image and text, characteristic of photonovellistic format, and that while the verbal content identifies with a denotative system covered by the documentary language, the images require a conversion that passes through connotative character expressions for their representation. Finally, this work found that, with the popularization of scanners players in the last decade, there was a brief moment of revival in interest in the photonovellas, brought about by digitization and availability on the web of collectors of collections, followed by a "second disappearance "- was the first editorial - driven by the depletion of your audience and need for constant maintenance of shared files.

Sémiotická analýza titulních fotografií v mezinárodních mutacích časopisu Vogue / Semiotic analysis of cover photographs in Vogue magazine international editions

Čápová, Tereza January 2022 (has links)
The central theme of the diploma thesis is fashion photography on the cover pages of Vogue magazine international editions. In the empirical section, the author uses a combination of quantitative content analysis and qualitative semiotic analysis based on the concept of the French semiotics Roland Barthes. The quantitative section of the analysis works with a sample of 87 photographs, from which 8 images are later selected for the semiotic part. At the denotative level, the analysis looks for common and different signs of individual editions. At the level of the connoted image, the author tries to decode the contained signs and their meanings. The semiotic analysis traces linguistic messages, the narrative, the paradigmatic and syntagmatic arrangement of photography, or the presence of national identity. Part of the work is also a theoretical section dedicated to fashion magazines and changes in the aesthetics of fashion photography. This part contains an excursion into the history and present of fashion photography and presents prominent personalities in the field. In the theoretical part, the author defines the terms that form the ground for empirical research. At the end of the work, the results of the analysis and their interpretation are presented.

Sémiotická analýza vybraných reklam na kosmetické produkty / Semiotic analysis of particular cosmetic products'commercials

Malá, Zuzana January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with semiotics (the study of signs) in audiovisual commercials. In its theoretical part it is engaged in the field of semiotics. At this point it investigates mainly the problems of a sign, the key element of semiotics. Furthermore it follows the development of the knowledge acquired through semiotics to other areas of research which help to detect the meanings of communication. Those areas are the levels of signification, thus denotation, connotation and myth. This chapter especially draws on Roland Barthes and his publication Mythology, which inspired this diploma thesis. The theoretical part continues by explanation of the main problems of commercial. It gives out the definition of a commercial, explains commercial as a communication process, but also depicts the strategies used in a commercial. Furthermore it tells about conceptualization of a commercial by Jean Baudrillard. Since the thesis analyses audiovisual commercials, it also deals with the sound and picture of a commercial. In its practical part the thesis continues with the analysis of seven audiovisual cosmetic products' commercials itself. Semiotic analysis is done according to Barthes' model. The thesis describes each commercial's story, scene, and sounds, and then analyses those elements as well as the...
