A Comparative Content Analysis of Texas and Thai High School Biology TextbooksRoadrangka, Vantipa 05 1900 (has links)
There were two purposes of this study. The first was that of determining, through an analysis of Texas and Thai biology textbooks, which objectives -- cognitive, affective, manual skill, processes of scientific inquiry, and orientation—were emphasized in three major and twenty-seven minor fields of biology. The second purpose was to determine if significant differences exist in the frequency distribution of these objectives. Only one biology program is used in schools throughout Thailand. This program, which was published by the Ministry of Education, consists of four textbooks with 1977 copyright date. The five Texas textbooks used in this study were those adopted under the provisions of the Textbook Law. The contents of each of the six texts included in the study were classified by using the criteria of Klopfer's Table of Specifications for Science Education.

Project work as a biology teaching strategySamuels, Kinsa Gita 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this investigation was to establish the role of project work in the teaching of biology. Questionnaires were sent to biology teachers and judges of a project competition. Participants of this competition were asked for positive and negative aspects of project work. Teachers indicated that the entire range of objectives of biology teaching can be achieved by project work. Judges of Expo felt that most of the
objectives were achieved. Pupils expressed similar sentiments. However, teachers felt that...
(a) there were several factors which limited the use of project work as a regular teaching strategy.
(b) objectives concerned with inquiry skills, attitudes and values were difficult to achieve in normal classroom teaching.
It is therefore, imperative that educational authorities do all they can in promoting project work as a teaching strategy in biology. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / M. Ed. (Didactics)

Syllabus for Advanced Placement BiologyTurk, Cathy Christine 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this syllabus is to provide a working copy to those teachers of the advanced placement biology course taught at the high school level. Reference materials used were the Texas Education Agency ( TEA ) approved Campbell text Biology and the College Board's, Advanced Placement Biology Laboratory Manual. The syllabus is divided into major topics with outlined notes and includes laboratory exercises as recommended by the College Board. The AP biology course is intended to be equivalent to college biology. College freshman biology courses can differ among colleges and among teachers within the same college. This syllabus is intended to serve as an aid to AP teachers, to cover the topics and experiments as set out by the College Board, and to the high school student, the necessary material to successfully complete the AP examination while providing freshman biology equivalence.
