Evaluating Textual Annotations with Interactive 3D Models

Gupta, Ankur 03 March 2013 (has links)
Annotations play a key role in explaining and elaborating 3D illustrations. They support users in identifying and establishing a visual link between different components within a 3D model. However, one major issue with annotating 3D illustrations is that there are no standard guidelines that clearly define which annotation type or style to use or is preferred by users in supporting learning and identifying objects at different zooming levels. Often, the decision of which style to use is influenced by size of the components being annotated and the overall look and feel (i.e., reduced occlusion and visual clutter) of the annotated view in display. In our research, we try to understand how effectively the three types of textual annotation labels (internal, external, and annotation boxes) can support users in learning, identifying, and navigating through 3D objects. We report the results of a study that evaluates the efficiency and accuracy in searching for components inside a 3D model, measures the impact on learning (in recalling the names of various components and their locations), and analyzes for user preferences in interacting with a 3D model on a mobile form factor at different zooming levels. Results of our study reflect that participants preferred external style annotations over internal and box style annotations, and that the participant’s performance (for both efficiency and accuracy) in searching for components inside a 3D model was highest with external style annotations. We also found that participants recalled more components when annotated with external styles annotations. Our findings suggest that of the three textual annotation styles considered in this study, external style annotation is the best annotation style to use in an annotated 3D model. / Annotations play a key role in explaining and elaborating 3D illustrations. Zhodnocení spolupráce AERA Vodochody a.s. a Boeing Ceska s.r.o.

Zralý, Jan January 2007 (has links)
Diplomová práce je zaměřena na zhodnocení přínosu spolupráce společnosti Aero Vodochody a.s. se silným zahraničním partnerem ? Boeingem. V teoretické části je vysvětlen pojem krize podniku, postup komplexní analýzy a strategie sanace. Praktická část obsahuje analýzu makrookolí a mikrookolí Aera Vodochody a profil společnosti Boeing. Na základě těchto analýz jsou zhodnoceny učiněné strategické kroky a jsou identifikovány hlavní faktory neúspěšné spolupráce.

Estimation of Aircraft Emissions for the Corpus Christi International Airport, Corpus Christi, Texas

Thomas, Gregson Johann 05 1900 (has links)
Commercial aviation is a vital part of the United States economy. It generates over $1 trillion annually, which is more than 5% of the U.S. GDP, and produces approximately 10 million jobs. Every year there is an increase in commercial air traffic. This is attributed to expanding trade between states and other countries, which requires larger amounts of cargo aircraft in operation, and also catering to the growing number of middle and upper class passengers who travel for business and pleasure purposes. A rise in commercial aviation leads to the use of more aviation fuel on a monthly and annual basis. This in turn leads to escalated levels of combustion by-products from jet and turbofan engines into the atmosphere. The negative effects of these by-products range from producing poor air quality and consequent health hazards to contributing to global warming. This study is aimed at assessing the impacts of aircraft emissions on the local air quality in Corpus Christi using the Emissions and Dispersion Modeling System. Flight data for the study was obtained from the Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration. Analyses of the emissions were compared on monthly, annual, engine type and airline provider bases. Climatic, economic and anthropogenic factors were identified in the analyses.

Flowfield Characterization of the Boeing/AFOSR Mach-6 Quiet Tunnel

Kathryn A. Gray (5930645) 03 January 2019 (has links)
<div>The quiet-flow capabilities of the Boeing/AFOSR Mach-6 Quiet Tunnel have been well established in the last decade, but a full characterization of the nozzle flow is an ongoing project. Pitot probes outtted with Kulite pressure transducers were used to further the investigation of the tunnel's flowfield. Noise levels were calculated by integrating the power spectral densities of the measured pitot pressure fluctuations, and experiments were performed to investigate several aspects of the flow.</div><div><br></div><div><div>First, the temperature distribution along the nozzle was varied to determine if heating had an effect on the stability of the laminar nozzle-wall boundary layer. Runs made with initial stagnation pressures slightly above the maximum quiet pressure determined that additional nozzle-wall heating did not have an effect on the amount of runtime which experienced quiet flow. In addition, pitot-probe measurements were taken at various locations to better determine the axial dependence of the noise levels. Experiments were also performed using pitot probes of varying forward-facing diameters to determine the effects of probe geometry on the measured fluctuations. The results were found to differ signicantly from simulations and from a previous set of experimental data, but a likely cause of the discrepancies was not found. A pitot probe mounted on the base of a cone confirmed that the aft end of a model does experience quiet flow. Finally, characterization of the flowfield was attempted when the tunnel is run using helium. The measured pressures for these experiments have a signicant level of uncertainty because the sensor calibration changes as helium diffuses across the diaphragm. Nevertheless, the measurements suggest that there may be periods of uniform flow, although these periods remain unstable and unsteady.</div></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

The Boeing Company's Development and Strategies in China

Chen, Yi-Fang 11 September 2008 (has links)
The aviation industry has more than a hundred years in history in the United States. And the industry has always been one of the important projects to conduct of the country. The industry involves not only technology, capitals but also politics. In order to maintain the influential power to the world, countries, especially the United States and Western Europe invest huge amount in this industry. However, under the globalization and high oil prices era, the industry encounters some difficulties to change. Outsourcing has become the solution for those manufacturers. The high growth of economic in Asia becomes another battle field for western countries to fight, especially in China. Chinese power is getting stronger; however, western countries concern about the special political backgrounds in China. Nevertheless, conducting business and finding cheap labor resource have been multinational companies¡¦ priority these days. The influential power of multinational companies and those parent countries become the major decision maker in the game. The Boeing Company has all the characteristics of these controversial issues. Chinese government, the Boeing Company, the rival Airbus and the U.S. government in the game would affect the industry.
