Identifying labour risks on construction sites in Gauteng.

Opaleye, Oladele Solomon. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Construction Management / Semi-skilled labourers are group of construction workers that are more prone to risks especially falls from heights, which is the basic motive for this study. Falls from heights could be classified as a safety risk compared to other risks that workers experienced in other economic disciplines. The purpose of this study is to identify the major risks encountered by semi-skilled labourers on construction sites in Gauteng and to make recommendations to mitigate the adverse impacts thereof.

Avaliação técnica e econômica de sistemas estruturais para torres residenciais de oito pavimentos / Technical and economic evaluation of structural systems to eight floors residential buildings

Braz, João Carlos Rocha, 1962- 10 February 2014 (has links)
Orientador: Vladimir Antônio Paulon / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Civil, Arquitetura e Urbanismo / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-26T02:13:21Z (GMT). Este trabalho constatou nítidas vantagens econômicas do sistema de paredes em concreto em relação aos outros dois sistemas avaliados / Abstract: Observing the usual structural systems in Brazil, the demand for skilled labor, the consumption of natural resources for the production of materials and the impact on the final costs of implementing real estate projects, developing a survey for obtaining data to assess economic feasibility and diminish envinronmental impacts in innovative building system is needed. To establish costs parameters and, then, modify the traditional methods are also desirable. This research aims on the determination of results show that there are several ways of optimizing the consumption of building materials and labor, reducing the impacts on natural resources, and resulting in projects with lower deployment costs. For that, we used an eight floors residential building as a case study, designed with three different structural systems: structural masonry, reinforced concrete structure, and concrete walls. We checked the direct and indirect costs, analyzed variations in the number of towers and time construction for all the options to make decisions about the best construction system to adopt. Clear economic advantages of the system in concrete walls than the two other systems evaluated were found and reported / Doutorado / Recursos Hidricos, Energeticos e Ambientais / Doutor em Engenharia Civil
