This creative project develops a conceptual plan for a "green", Ball State University Field Study Environmental Education Center, LandLab and Dormitory. The proposed design is ecologically responsible in construction and operation, relying upon natural qualities and resources of the site, as sources of renewable energy.In addition to enabling formal environmental education, the proposed facility is intended to foster within its students and guests, a love of life and nature, and an environmental ethic. Strategic and environmentally responsible use and placement of facility systems, variously composed of infrastructure, building, winter garden, and landscape components, results not only in interdisciplinary, experiential learning opportunities, and in replications of natural biomes; but, inherently provides healthy living conditions, in an interior environment ideally suited for human occupancy, with lush vegetation, gushing, gurgling, and splashing water, naturalistic scenery, fresh air, abundant sunlight, and warm temperatures. / Department of Landscape Architecture

The Development Program for the J. H. Wysor Store and Office Building Restoration and Reuse for a City Hall for Muncie, Indiana is an analysis of one of Muncie's best known landmarks. The development program is a study that investigates the history, physical characteristics, and potential reuse of the J. H. Wysor Store and Office Building. The program includes space requirements and an analysis of the needs for a city hall for Muncie, Indiana.The study was also extended to the entire city block with special emphasis on the small store fronts, 107, 109, and 111 West Main Street.The results of my thesis are a proposed design for the restoration of the Wysor Building, the 107, 109, and 111 West Main Street and an example of a proposed parking garage, through drawings and a model. / Department of Architecture

This creative project has investigated the development potential of the "trackside" area as defined in the project. The project site is located on the south end of the central business district of Muncie. The area contains many historically significant buildings such as; the Federal Building, Robert's Hotel, Cohen Block, Marsh Building, Goddard Warehouse and Union Station to name a few. The study included an inventory process of existing conditions, urban spaces, building significants, figure ground study, assets and liabilities and analysis.This inventory process formed the basis for the urban design proposal which indicates the development potential of the area. The overall proposal is broken down into four sub-areas for easier explanation. These areas are named for the function or character trait that is significant to each: Conference Center Area, Plaza Node, Passive Cultural Center and the Railroad Node. In addition to a proposal for each subarea, the study indicates a concept analysis explaining the development idea. / Department of Architecture

This creative project thesis is an exploration of the connected experiences in light, space and time, developed through the 'making'of architecture. The process began with the concept of 'installation', in which the practice evolves from a vast spectrum of disciplines. The objective is to create an alternative spatial experience, occurring within an existing building. A piece of architecture through which the environment may be activated by the presence of light, material and man . An abandoned old building was chosen as the site in which to create the project. The repair and the creation of the new combined, creating the installation of a space which both respects and evolves from the existing. The process of rehabilitation and the 'making' of architecture offering a variety of interactive opportunities; of dialogue and language which furthers the understanding of society and the conception of architecture. / Department of Architecture

The objective of this thesis is to provide the Delaware County Historical Alliance with a maintenance program that will help to preserve the Moore-Youse House Museum. The fundamental steps of inspection, diagnosis, maintenance/treatment, and documentation are discussed and emphasized. These steps provide the basis which underlies the maintenance program.An inspection of the house was conducted. Construction materials and the condition of the building fabric were documented and recommendations made about treatment. Maintenance techniques were discussed and a maintenance schedule was provided to assist in implementing the program. A method for documenting and recording conservation and maintenance work on the structure was also developed. / Department of Architecture
