Leptospirosis is a cosmopolitan zoonosis that affects domestic and wild animals, and rodents. Among the domestic animals, in urban environment, in Brazil, dogs are the main source of infection for human beings. In 20 points distributed homogenously for urban territorial area of Botucatu, SP, 1 000 blood samples of dogs were collected. Microscopic agglutination test (MAT) was used to the diagnosis, with 24 serovars of Leptospira spp., there were 179 canine sera reagents. Dogs with age over than five years (66/248) were those that presented higher frequency of reagents, demonstrating significative difference (p<0.05). Male dogs (110/548) presented higher frequency of reagents than females (69/452) (p<0.05). Dogs without defined breed (127/670) presented higher absolute frequency than those with breed (52/330), but there was not significative difference (p>0.05). Among the dogs that had contact with other animals (dog/cat/bovine/equine) (7/11) there was higher frequency of reagents (p<0.05). Among the animals that had access to waters (23/107) there was higher frequency of reagents than those without access (156/893), however did not occur significative difference (p>0.05). In the dogs with access to stream/lake (5/13), presented higher frequency of reagents, but there was not significative difference (p>0.05). Those fed with concentrate/homely food (70/285) were more reagents (p<0.05). The quantity of dogs reagents from owners that did not offer food and water during the night (65/326) was higher (p>0.05). There was higher frequency of reagents to leptospirosis among the dogs from owners with basic teaching formation (122/627) (p<0.05). In owners with income of one to three minimum wages there was higher quantity of dogs reagents (83/411) (p<0.05). Vila São Luís point presented higher quantity (44.2%) and the lower was the one from COHAB – V (6.0%). Twenty serovars... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
