O projeto expositivo Meu bairro, minha cidade: você também faz parte desta história foi desenvolvido entre 2003 e 2004 e resultou nas exposições inaugurais dos Centros Educacionais Unificados, cujo objetivo era apresentar as conexões entre a história local e a história mais ampla da cidade, como forma de propiciar uma apropriação positiva do novo espaço escolar pela população do seu entorno. Tal experiência teve como vetor as comemorações dos 450 da cidade de São Paulo e representou o resultado de um trabalho coordenado pela Secretaria Municipal da Educação, com a colaboração da Secretaria Municipal da Cultura. Por sua vinculação a um espaço escolar, as exposições assumiam uma dimensão pedagógica que lhe era condicionante. Compreendida como uma ação museológica, tal projeto representa uma das mais importantes iniciativas culturais acionadas pela esfera pública municipal de São Paulo, tendo em vista o seu caráter inédito de registro de memória de bairros periféricos. Esta dissertação aborda o seu processo de concepção, produção e recepção, bem como os seus desdobramentos em atividades pedagógicas integradas ao currículo escolar da rede municipal de ensino. / The exhibition project My neighborhood, my city: you are also part of this History was developed between 2003 and 2004 and resulted in the inaugurations of the Unified Educational Centers (CEUs). Its goal was to present the connections between local history and the broader history of the city, as a way to provide a positive appropriation of the new school space by the population. This experience had as a vector as commemorations of the 450 years of the city of São Paulo and represented the result of a work coordinated by the Municipal Secretary of Education, with the collaboration of Municipal Secretary of Culture. Because of its connection to a school space, the exhibitions assumed a pedagogical dimension that was conditioning it. Understanding as a museological action, this project represents one of the most important cultural initiatives triggered by the municipal public domain of São Paulo, considering its unprecedented feature of registration and valorization of the memory of peripheral districts. This dissertation approaches its conception, production and reception process, as well as its developments in pedagogical activities integrated to the school curriculum of the municipal education network.

The expression and production of piano timbre : gestural control and technique, perception and verbalisation in the context of piano performance and practice

La version intégrale de cette thèse est disponible uniquement pour consultation individuelle à la Bibliothèque de musique de l’Université de Montréal (http://www.bib.umontreal.ca/MU). / Cette thèse a pour objet l’étude interdisciplinaire et systématique de l’expression du timbre au piano par les pianistes de haut niveau, dans le contexte de l’interprétation et la pratique musicales. En premier lieu sont exposées la problématique générale et les différentes définitions et perspectives sur le timbre au piano, selon les points de vue scientifiques et musicaux. Suite à la présentation de la conception du timbre au piano telle qu’établie par les pianistes dans les traités pédagogiques, la perception et la verbalisation du timbre au piano sont examinées à l’aide de méthodes scientifiques expérimentales et quantitatives. Les mots dont usent les pianistes pour décrire et parler de différentes nuances de timbre sont étudiés de façon quantitative, en fonction de leurs relations sémantiques, et une carte sémantique des descripteurs de timbre communs est dressée. Dans deux différentes études, la perception du timbre au piano par les pianistes de haut niveau est examinée. Les résultats suggèrent que les pianistes peuvent identifier et nommer les nuances de timbre contrôlées par l’interprète dans des enregistrements audio, de façon consistante et convergente entre production et perception. Enfin, la production et le contrôle gestuel du timbre au piano en interprétation musicale est explorée à l’aide du système d’enregistrement d’interprétation Bösendorfer CEUS. La PianoTouch toolbox, développée spécialement sous MATLAB afin d’extraire des descripteurs d’interprétation à partir de données de clavier et pédales à haute résolution, est présentée puis mise en œuvre pour étudier la production expressive du timbre au piano par le toucher et le geste au sein d’interprétations par quatre pianistes exprimant cinq nuances de timbre et enregistrées avec le système CEUS. Les espaces et portraits gestuels des nuances de timbre ainsi obtenus présentent différents degrés d’intensité, attaque, équilibre entre les mains, articulation et usage des pédales. Ces résultats représentent des stratégies communément employées pour l’expression de chaque nuance de timbre en interprétation au piano. / This dissertation presents an interdisciplinary, systematic study of the expression of piano timbre by advanced-level pianists in the context of musical performance and practice. To begin, general issues and aims are introduced, as well as differing definitions and perspectives on piano timbre from scientific and musical points of view. After the conception of piano timbre is presented as documented by pianists in pedagogical treatises, the perception and verbalisation of piano timbre is investigated with experimental and quantitative scientific methods. The words that pianists use to describe and talk about different timbral nuances are studied quantitatively, according to their semantic relationships, and a semantic map of common piano timbre descriptors is drawn out. In two separate studies, the perception of piano timbre by highly skilled pianists is investigated. Results suggest that advanced pianists can identify and label performer-controlled timbral nuances in audio recordings with consistency and agreement from production to perception. Finally, the production and gestural control of piano timbre in musical performance is explored using the Bösendorfer CEUS piano performance recording system. The PianoTouch toolbox, specifically developed in MATLAB for extracting performance features from high-resolution keyboard and pedalling data, is presented and used to study the expressive production of piano timbre through touch and gesture in CEUS-recorded performances by four pianists in five timbral nuances. Gestural spaces and portraits of the timbral nuances are obtained with differing patterns in intensity, attack, balance between hands, articulation and pedalling. The data represents common strategies used for the expression of each timbral nuance in piano performance.

[pt] Esta pesquisa versa sobre o maior entre os nascidos de mulheres, com base no texto de Mt 11,2-15. Partindo desse princípio, a pesquisa aborda sobre João, o Batista, no testemunho dado por Jesus aos discípulos que estavam à sua volta. É bem verdade que a vida de João, o Batista, é um enigma a ser desvendado, tendo em vista as poucas informações oferecidas a respeito de sua vida, com exceção daquelas que são encontradas em textos do Novo Testamento (Evangelhos e Atos dos Apóstolos) e em textos extrabíblicos. Ao pesquisar essa perícope, encontramos um paralelo em Lc 7,18-28, com suas semelhanças e diferenças, sobre as quais faremos menção aqui em nosso estudo e abordagem. Nesse sentido, esse trabalho faz uma análise do texto base aqui pesquisado, recorrendo ao contexto histórico de Mateus, passando pela comunidade mateana, onde o Evangelho foi desenvolvido e o testemunho de Jesus foi identificado a João, o Batista. Em outro momento, faremos um status quaestionis a respeito do tema João, o Batista, o maior entre os nascidos de mulheres em Mt 11,2-15 com as contribuições necessárias de alguns autores. Por fim, faremos uma exegese da perícope de Mt 11,2-15, seguindo os critérios do Método Histórico-Crítico e da Análise Retórica Bíblica, para alcançarmos o sentido próprio do texto direcionando para a compreensão do tema: João, o Batista, o maior entre os nascidos de mulheres: Uma análise exegética de Mt 11,2-15. / [en] This research deals with the greatest among women born based on the text of Mt 11,2-15. Based on this principle, the research addresses John the Baptist s testimony given by Jesus to the disciples around him. It is quite true that the life of John the Baptist is a riddle to be unraveled, given the little information offered about his life, except for that found in New Testament texts (Gospels and Acts of the Apostles). and in extrabiblical texts. In researching this pericope, we find a parallel in Luke 7,18-28, with its similarities and differences, which we will mention here in our study and approach. In this sense, this work makes an analysis of the base text researched here, using the historical context of Matthew, passing through the Matean community, where the Gospel was developed, and the testimony of Jesus was identified to John the Baptist. In another moment, we will make a status quaestionis on the theme John the Baptist, the greatest among the born of women in Mt 11,2-15 with the necessary contributions of some authors. Finally, we will make an exegesis of the pericope of Mt 11,2-15, following the criteria of the Historical-Critical Method and Biblical Rhetorical Analysis, in order to reach the proper meaning of the text, directing to the understanding of the theme: “John the Baptist, the greatest among women born: An exegetical analysis of Mt 11,2-15.
