Dopad devizových intervencí ČNB na zahraniční obchod ČR / Impact of Czech National Bank´s foreign exchange intervention on the trade balance of the Czech RepublicBlumtritt, Jakub January 2015 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to analyze and evaluate the effect of the Czech National Bank´s foreign exchange intervention on the trade balance of the Czech Republic. For this purpose a hypothesis was set, that in the short-term the devaluation of the Czech currency causes deterioration of the trade balance and only after some time has passed the trade balance starts to grow. In theory this effect is known as the J-curve hypothesis. The first chapter summarizes theoretical knowledge about monetary policy and exchange rate theory. The second chapter analyzes the development of commodity and territorial structure of the Czech trade balance from 2000 to 2013. The third chapter focuses on the foreign exchange intervention itself and provides arguments for and against this measure taken by the Czech National Bank. The fourth chapter is the most important one for acceptance or rejection of the hypothesis set. It uses the Vector Error Correction Model to estimate the impact of devaluation on the trade balance of Czech Republic with Germany. Subsequently outcomes of this model are compared to the real statistical data of Czech trade.

Dopady měnové intervence ČNB z roku 2013 na insolvence podniku / Impacts of CNB Monetary Interventions from 2013 to the Insolvency of the CompaniesKudějová, Barbora January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis is concerned with the intervention of the Czech National Bank in the area of the exchange market and its impact on the insolvency of companies. The majority of the studies dealing with the liquidation of companies focuses primarily on the microeconomic determinants of bankruptcy. Conversely, the empirical study carried out in this project concentrates on the macroeconomic determinants of company bankruptcy. For the purposes of this study were used the quarterly panel data of insolvencies for the 5-year-period between 2010 - 2015. The quantity of insolvencies was established for individual branches. Furthermore, the method Differences-in-Differences was employed in order to compare those branches which were assumed to prove a significant impact of the depreciation of the Czech crown in comparison to those where the exchange rate seems to be rather irrelevant. The results of the regressive analysis have confirmed the initial hypothesis of this work: from the perspective of insolvency, the intervention on the aggregate level has improved the situation of companies. Finally, the impact on individual branches was investigated in this diploma thesis. The results testified that the situation deteriorated in case of the travel agencies (as expected).

Hodnocení hospodářské politiky pomocí syntetické kontrolní metody / Evaluating Economic Policy Using the Synthetic Control MethodOpatrný, Matěj January 2021 (has links)
The doctoral thesis consists of three essays that address the application of synthetic control method to various economic policy intervention. In the first essay I evaluate the quantitative effects of the Czech National Bank's commitment to keep the Koruna from appreciating that were put in place in 2013. I find that the commitment helped decrease unemployment substantially. The effect on overall output is also strongly positive, almost 2 percentage points for growth in 2015. The effect of the commitment on inflation is positive but not statistically significant at standard levels. In the second essay I focus on the impact of joining the EU on the Czech agriculture. The results show that the Czech Republic would have had a higher food index if it had not entered the CAM and CAP. Moreover, I show that the CAP and CAM had different impacts on farms in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, which have the most comparable agriculture according to the results of the synthetic control method. In the final essay I estimate how the UK financial markets would have evolved if the Remain camp had won the referendum. The results suggest that there would not have been any significant change in the development of the FTSE 100 Index in the medium to long term if there had not been a referendum. On the other hand, I...

Cílování inflace v podmínkách hrozby deflačních tlaků na příkladu ČNB / Inflation targeting in case of imminent deflationary pressures - the example of CNBPlachý, Matěj January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the use of inflation targeting as monetary policy regime in a situation of imminent deflation. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part introduces the basic mechanism of inflation targeting with its basic elements and describes its possible failure. The second part focuses mainly on the analysis of the economic factors which contributed to achieving the zero lower bound for the repo rate of CNB. The third part presents an alternative (unconventional) monetary policy instruments in case of achieving zero lower bound, in particular the use of the exchange rate. The end of the last part of this thesis analyzes the development of key macroeconomic indicators in the Czech Republic.

Rychlost vstupu do EMU z pohledu národohospodářských nákladů / Macro-economic costs analysis and time determination of joining European Monetary UnionZámečník, Michal January 2008 (has links)
The main aim of this thesis is to discover a suitable instant of time for the Czech Republic to join European Monetary Union. I am analyzing dependence between monetary policies of the Czech National Bank (CNB) and the European Central Bank (ECB) themselves as well as in relation to essential Czech macroeconomic indicators. My observation is focused on interest rate policies represented by operative interest rates, on monetary policies represented by indices of nominal effective exchange rates and on convergence monitoring. The analytical instruments I used in the thesis are correlation analyses, linear trends, the Granger causality test and the Impulse-Reaction test. Besides, my thesis examines fulfillment of the Convergence (Maastricht) criteria in the Czech Republic and other central European countries. This thesis also examines impact of the European monetary policy on some Eurozone member countries.

Dohledová činnost České národní banky / On Supervision of Financial Markets by Czech National BankSkácelík, David January 2014 (has links)
1 Abstract This work deals with the performance of supervision over the financial market and the entities operating in the financial market. Part of the work is devoted to consumer protection in the financial market and compensation systems. Because of the fact that the Czech Republic became a member of the European Union in 2004, this work includes also legislation of regulation and supervision of this level, as this treatment significantly predetermines Czech adjustment. Following questions were examined as an example of protecting the interests of clients of supervised entities: - whether there are any tools to protect the client's interests at the level of supervised entities, - what kind of role the supervisory authority has or may have in relation between a supervised entity and its client, - how are the client's financial interests protected in the event of failure of the supervised entity and whether this protection is de lege lata sufficient. The theoretical part of the work briefly describes the institute of supervision, its assorting and forms. The authority of supervisor is discussed in the next part together with the regulations under which the supervision is conducted. Owing to the fact that the scope of supervisory activity of the Czech National Bank is quite extensive, and the objective of...
