Factors that influence Winnipeg employers to participate in post-secondary co-operative education programs in technical communication

Campbell, Alexa 18 August 2006 (has links)
Co-op programs bridge the gap between the academic and work worlds and provide students with practical experience in their chosen fields while they earn money between academic school terms. The Technical Communication Diploma program at Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has incorporated a co-operative education term. Instructors at the College charged with placing co-op students each year are challenged in finding such placements, and they receive little guidance from research. In this study, I interviewed 21 employers in Winnipeg who hired co-op students from the Technical Communication Diploma program at Red River College from 2003–2005, to determine their perspectives on participation in co-op programs. Important factors influencing Winnipeg employers were the productivity of students and their specialized skill sets. The major deterrent to re-hiring students was lack of funding. A Model of Employers’ Motivation to Participate in Co-op Programs is proposed.

Imagining possibilities for shared place: sense of place investigations into local connections and visions for the common ground land on Tunnel Island, Kenora, Ontario

Wiens, Mya Wheeler 04 January 2012 (has links)
The creation of working relationships between First Nations and non-First Nation peoples is the focus of the Common Land, Common Ground movement, which created partnership between the municipality of Kenora, three nearby First Nation reserves and the Grand Council of Treaty #3. This research explored, through the concept of Sense of Place (SOP), connections and visions people have regarding land gifted to this partnership on Tunnel Island (TI) in Kenora. Data were collected through interviews, modified focus groups, and participant observation. Results are organized into three themes, with ‘Connections’ revealing representations of people’s sense of place of TI, ‘Perspectives’ outlining people’s views about TI, and ‘Visions’, establishing people’s thoughts on the future of TI. Recommendations include: using SOP research to authentically engage people in place connections to allow for holistic participation and engagement and recognizing at a institutional level that increased awareness and participation will not result in homogenized agreements.

Investigation and Implementation of Coexistence Tool for Antennas

Carlsson, Robin January 2014 (has links)
With the increase of the number of radios and antennas on today’s systems, the risk of co-site interference is very high. Intermodulation product and antenna coupling are two common sources of interference. The thesis investigates some features of a radio system, like antenna types, receiver parameters, intermodulation products and isolation, and suggests how this knowledge can be used to minimize the risk of co-site interference. The goal is to maximize the isolation between the antennas, by good frequency planning, the use of filters and taking great care in antenna placement. A first version of an analysis software was developed where transmitters and receivers can be paired and evaluated. An intermodulation product calculator was also implemented, to easily find which products are an issue and where they originate. The goal of the software is to be simple to use and easy to adapt to different setups and situations. It should also be easy to upgrade with new features.
