The research involved a sample of students enrolled in the discipline of Statistics in undergraduate courses in Administration, Accounting and Information Systems, in a private college in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. For data analysis tools were used in descriptive statistics and results were compared with the study validated by Cazorla et al (1999). The scale showed good internal consistency in the second questionnaire, with Cronbach's alpha of 0. 86. An exploratory factor analysis identified three underlying factors based on the original scale for the discussion of the results: confidence / affection / security, importance / applicability and utility / skill. Comparing the attitudes and the image that students have in relation to statistics before and after coursing discipline, it was found that students sometimes have attitudes favorable and sometimes unfavorable image, may be supposed that this fact is linked to other factors not covered bu this study as the methodology of the teacher, learning difficulties, classroom environment, etc. Even with this type of behavior, students recognize the applicability of statistical knowledge. / Esse trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a imagem e as atitudes que os alunos de cursos superiores possuem em relação à Estatística, por meio de um estudo comparativo antes e depois de cursarem a disciplina. A investigação envolveu uma amostra de alunos matriculados na disciplina de Estatística nos cursos de graduação de Administração, Ciências Contábeis e Sistemas de Informação de uma faculdade particular da região metropolitana de Porto Alegre. Para a análise dos dados foram utilizadas ferramentas da Estatística Descritiva e os resultados foram confrontados com o estudo validado por Cazorla et al (1999). A escala apresentou boa consistência interna no segundo questionário, com Alpha de Cronbach de 0,86. Uma análise fatorial exploratória identificou três fatores subjacentes baseados na escala original para a discussão dos resultados: autoconfiança/afeto/segurança, importância/aplicabilidade e utilidade/habilidade. Comparando-se as atitudes e a imagem que os alunos possuem em relação à Estatística antes e depois de cursarem a disciplina, verificou-se que os estudantes ora possuem atitudes e imagem favoráveis ora desfavoráveis, podendo se supor que este fato esteja ligado a outros fatores não contemplados por esse estudo, como: metodologia do professor, dificuldade de aprendizagem, ambiente de sala de aula, etc. Mesmo com este tipo de comportamento, os alunos reconhecem a aplicabilidade dos conhecimentos estatísticos.
