Remote points in br and p-points in br - r

Leung, Chi-Ming January 1971 (has links)
We are going to study the remote points in βR and the P-points in βR - R. A remote point in βR is a point which is not in the βR chosure of any discrete subset of R. A point p ε βR - R is a P-point of βR - R if every Gδ-set containing p is a neighbourhood of p. / Science, Faculty of / Mathematics, Department of / Graduate

Learner as an active participant in learning and continuous assessment

Mkhize, Samkeliso Emmanuel Nkwayi January 2004 (has links)
Submitted to the FACULTY OF EDUCATION in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF EDUCATION in the Department of CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL STUDIES at the UNIVERSITY OF ZULULAND, 2004. / The present study examines the active participation of learners in learning and continuous assessment. The first aim was to ascertain the extent to which learners play an active role in learning and continuous assessment. The second aim was to determine whether learners' biographical factors such as gender, age and grade have any influence on the active role which they play in learning and continuous assessment. To this end, a questionnaire was administered to a randomly selected sample of three hundred and fifty four learners. The findings reveal that learners differ in the extent to which they play an active role in learning and continuous assessment a very high percentage (79.9%) of learners report an average level of active role. The findings also show that learners' personal variables such as gender, age as well as grade have no influence on learners' active role which they play in learning and continuous assessment. On the basis of the findings of this study, recommendations to the Department of Education as well as for directing future research were made.

Vägen till kontinuerliga leveranser : En fallstudie om continuous delivery och DevOps i en offentlig organisation

Hämäläinen, Thomas, Strömberg, Hillevi January 2016 (has links)
Information system development projecs are often considered a costly and uncertain process were projects often exceed the scheduled time and budget. By continuously integrating source code and do regular builds problems can be discovered almost directly and thus minimizing the cost to fix them. In this qualitative study we have focused on which challenges a large public organization who cooperate with an external provider can face when adopting continuous integration and continuous delivery. We have interviewed six employees within the organisation and two employees from the external provider, who are all in some way connected to the software development process. The results showed that our interviewees are interested in agile software development and to be able to deliver high quality software continuously. We also found that the software development process is complex and has a lot of barriers and handovers that slows the process down. Our conclusion is that the organization needs to change their approach to software development. To achieve this the organisation needs to adopt Devops, which means erasing the barriers between development and operations.

Enhancing Security in Telemetry Post-Processing Environments with Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM)

Kaibjian, Jeff 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2014 Conference Proceedings / The Fiftieth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 20-23, 2014 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, CA / While great strides have been made in recent years by government agencies in deploying proactive network security tools, the federal government as a whole desires to continue to press the state of the art in protecting its IT infrastructure. To this end, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has created the Continuous Diagnostic and Mitigation (CDM) program [1] (also known as Continuous Monitoring, CM). It strives to establish a technology framework whereby agency federal government IT networks can be continuously monitored for threats and vulnerabilities, providing an analysis and correlation capability that will enable entities to better evaluate risk. It also defines a hierarchical dash-boarding capability that facilitates both aggregation and communication of each agency's network health status into abstracted levels of summary so the federal system as a whole can be better evaluate their IT security posture. Going forward, these technologies will dramatically impact all government agencies, the Department of Defense (DOD), and commercial entities.

The Effects of Continuous Versus Non-Continuous Noise and Level of Intensity on a Serial Learning Task

Ware, William S. 08 1900 (has links)
The present study was designed to investigate the effects of two noise conditions, continuous and noncontinuous noise, and three intensity levels, upon a serial learning task and the interaction effects of these factors on learning.

Wavelet analysis of the high resolution electrocardiogram for the detection of ventricular late potentials

Bunluechokchai, Sonthaya January 2003 (has links)
The High Resolution Electrocardiogram (HRECG) is used to detect Ventricular Late Potentials (VLPs) in post-myocardial infarction patients. VLPs are low-amplitude, high-frequency signals that are usually found within the terminal part of the QRS complex. The aim of this research was to develop possible alternative methods and improve existing methods of detecting VLP activity. There are two main topics in this work: applications of the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to the HRECG. For the CWT application, a Fractionation Factor (FF) method proposed by previous work was further investigated and improved by combining the CWT and DWT for distinction between patients with and those without VLPs. A Differential Fractionation Factor was proposed as an alternative approach to the FF with better results. Observation in the time-scale plot showed a difference in the energy distribution. A 2-dimensional Fractionation Factor was proposed to quantify this difference. A new concept of local intermittency was investigated to exhibit energy nonuniformity and then a Local Intermittency Factor was developed to quantify the degree of nonuniformity. The energy computed with the CWT was also used for patient distinction. Patients with VLPs may be also characterised by a slow rate of energy decay. The CWT can reveal a difference in ECG irregularity between the patients. A new approach of approximate entropy was implemented to quantify this irregularity. For the DWT application, the DWT can reveal irregularity of VLP activity and it was quantified by the approximate entropy to identify patients with VLPs. The wavelet entropy was utilised as an alternative method to the FF. The energy computed with the DWT was used for patient classification. The potentially promising results of both the CWT and DWT applications were obtained from the methods of computing the energy and approximate entropy
