Zneškodňování spalin znečištěných NOx II / Treatment of flue gas polluted by NOx II

Jedlička, Filip January 2009 (has links)
My master’s thesis deals with the problems of NOx abatement that are included in flue gases. The accent is put on combined flue gases treatment throug ceramic candles, where the deposited catalyst enables NOx reduction throug the method of selective catalytic reduction. The main aim of my master’s thesis has been the design of experimental equipment for current removal of gas pollutants (dioxins, VOC and NOx) and fly-ash on catalitic ceramic candle. Design of experimental equipment consisted in the calculation of basic characteristics like pipe diameter, filtration chamber diameter, heater performance etc. During the design it was necessary to build pressure drop model that was split into head loss of ceramic candle and piping system. For the evaluation of experimentally measured data and for description of ongoing catalytic reaction in various operating conditions was made prediction model of catalytical filter. The last chapter deals with planned experimental testings.

Long-term thermal/chemical degradation of ceramic candle filter materials

Miller, Jean P. 17 March 2010 (has links)
Commercial ceramic candle filters were exposed to harsh environments to determine the effects of alkali and steam on their long-term durability. Ceramic candle filters are composed of relatively coarse aggregates fixed by a ceramic bond. The filters studied include a clay-bonded, granular aluminosilicate candle and three types of clay-bonded, granular SiC candles. The alkali, steam, and steam-alkali corrosion of these commercial ceramic candle filters was examined at temperatures ranging from 450 to 1225°C and pressures up to 1000 psi. Results indicate that the aluminosilicate candle filters perform better than filters made from granular SiC. The SiC filters show binder degradation in steam as well as in alkali-containing environments at temperatures as low as 700°C, with oxidation of the SiC occurring in the steam environments at higher temperatures. Sodium and potassium contaminants in the steam atmospheres accelerate the degradation of both types of filter material. / Master of Science

We are so poor : an investigation into the lives of ten women living in an informal area in the Durban Functional Region with particular reference to the role of domestic fuels.

Annecke, Wendy Jill. January 1992 (has links)
This dissertation explores the texture of women's lives in an urban informal area, with the particular aim of highlighting their use of domestic energies in the absence of their access to electricity. The investigation into domestic fuel usage is situated within the context of other basic needs: shelter, water and food and the acquisition of these. Each is separately explored. The domestic fuel sources used by the women were primarily paraffin and candles. The dissertation argues that there is no simple equation between household income and fuel purchase but that the acquisition of food and fuel are mutually dependent and contingent upon a complex set of variables which include the perceived physical and emotional well-being of the woman and her household. Furthermore the dissertation argues that given the extent of informal settlements and poverty nationally, candles and paraffin are likely to continue to be extensively used in the future. despite their disadvantages and the desirability of electricity. The dissertation submits that the reasons for this pertain to the accessibility and relative affordability of paraffin to households whose buying power is constrained as much by the form in which their income is derived as by its inadequacy. These arguments are elucidated through case studies of ten women who live in non-electrified homes in Canaan. The women concerned monitored their consumption of and expenditure on water, food, and fuel for a month, and met once a week as a group while they were doing so. Finally the dissertation suggests that national energy planners should take into account the manner in which women perceive and manage their housekeeping roles, particularly cooking, as well as the form in which household income is derived in order to determine strategies and energy policies which would would be women-friendly and support the needs of the extensive numbers of impoverished households in South Africa. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of Natal, Durban, 1992.

Córdova Cruces, Noel Francisco 27 September 2018 (has links)
Tanha Design is a company dedicated to the elaboration and commercialization of paraffin-based products. Currently, the company has 2 product lines (candles and lanterns) and a wide variety of models and designs in both categories. This company is constantly growing and markets its products both in direct sales and sale of its products for social and corporate events. Currently, corporate events are the ones that represent most of their sales. Product deliveries for events have a deadline; This leads to a problem for the capacity of the production line, causing that sales are sometimes rejected. This project analyzes the production line of paraffin lanterns because these products represent higher income for the company. In addition, the capacity of this production line cannot meet the current demand and requires additional staff and overtime. In the preliminary analysis, it was identified that the causes of the decrease in productivity are the lack of standardisation in the process, a deficiency in the productive flow and disorder in the areas of work. In order to solve this problem was implemented the 5 "S" and the study of methods, and thus be able to improve the productivity of the line of elaboration of lanterns with the aim of increasing the productive capacity and decrease the lost sales. / Tesis

The paradoxical aspects of commitment in Tennessee Williams’ work : the plays from the thirties

Systermans, Valérie 11 May 2010 (has links)
The object of my thesis is to reconsider the critical studies on Tennessee Williams by focusing on the political dimension of his early work. This is done by analysing the protest plays he wrote in the 1930s: Candles to the Sun, Fugitive Kind, Spring Storm and Not about Nightingales. These seminal plays reveal a virtually unknown Tennessee Williams, committed to fighting social injustice. This discovery is all the more important as the dramatist is often portrayed as an apolitical writer and described as a poet of the flesh and a depictor of sexual instincts and conflicts. This approach challenges the conventional vision of Williams' literary ambitions by showing that he may have been more socially and even politically subversive than generally admitted. A careful reading of Williams’s plays written in the thirties reveals that he closely followed the developments of left-wing theatre both in the choice of his subjects and of dramaturgical forms such as revolutionary realism or the aesthetics of the Popular Front. Still, he created original plays that went far beyond rigid formulaes or predictable plots. Because they propose no clearcut message, and through their permeating ambiguity and the feelings of empathy they trigger, these plays radically differ from the other productions of the period. Williams’ theatre could be described as a theatre of emotions at the opposite of Brecht’s theatre of alienation. However its impact is often remarkably similar. This can be explained by the phenomenon of fluctuating identifications that is Williams’s way of absorbing Brecht’s stereoscopic structures. This leads us to redefine the very principles of commitment in the theatre.

Filosofická interpretace děl Marca Chagalla / Philosophical interpretation of works of Marc Chagall

JINDRÁKOVÁ, Edita January 2014 (has links)
This thesis covers the interpretation of life and work of Marc Chagall, jewish painter of 20th century. Goal of the thesis is to highlight symbolic motives of his work, and later on interpret those on selected pieces. The thesis is divided into four parts. First part is devoted to the life of the painter and his jewish origin, which had a significant influence on the character of his work. Second part covers the meaning of symbols in art and religon in general. Third tries to compare Chagall's conveyance with two jewish philosophers of the dialog: E. Lévinas and F. Rosenzweig. Fourth then interprets selected pieces with philosophical or religious extent. Whole thesis is based on the conception that art is able to convey messages and interpret the world around us.
