[en] PORTRAIT OF A MATRIARCH: MEMORY AND NARRATIVE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF DONA CANÔ S PROFILE / [pt] RETRATO DE UMA MATRIARCA: MEMÓRIA E NARRAÇÃO NA CONSTRUÇÃO DO PERFIL DE DONA CANÔ

TELMA ALVARENGA 24 September 2020 (has links)
[en] Dona Canô was known nationwide as Caetano Velloso s and Maria Bethânia s mother. But this matriarch from Recôncavo Baiano - she had other six children, two adopted - had a light of her own. In tiny Santo Amaro da Purificação, town where she was born and lived almost all of the 105 years of her life, Dona Canô turned into a community leader. Got improvements for the city, helped the ones more in need, received politicians in her home, gave interviews, inspired songs and put your backyard in the cultural map of Brasil. This master s thesis aims to draw Claudionor Vianna Telles Velloso s profile, as a mosaic of memories, based mainly on the testimonies of people who lived with her: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbors in Santo Amaro and friends. The construction of Dona Canô s profile led to reflexions about matriarchs figures, memory and its subjectivity, history and remembrance. To reach this goal, it was essencial to turn to authors such as Walter Benjamin, Jeanne Marie Gagnebin, Silviano Santiago, Didi-Huberman, among others.

Líneas de fuga: valores menores en la critica literaria de Mário de Andrade, Baldomero Sanín Cano y Alfonso Reyes / Lines of flight: minor values in the literary criticism of Mário de Andrade, Baldomero Sanín Cano and Alfonso Reyes

David, Juan Felipe Restrepo 27 May 2013 (has links)
The aim of this this thesis is to analyze the practice of literary criticism in Brazilian Mário de Andrade (1893-1945), Colombian Baldomero Sanín Cano (1861-1957), and Mexican Alfonso Reyes (1889-1959), inside the historical and cultural context of Hispano-American Modernism (between centuries) and Brazilian Modernism (20´s and 30´s) as well as the Mexican Cultural Revolution at the beginning of the XX century. \"This analysis relies upon the concept of Minor Values, which departs from Barthes\' proposed image. It refers to a word which, being part of the critical text, works as a revealing key, strengthening the sense of the critical text. Different from the major value -true expression of an epoch and generation-, the minor value is the most subjective expression that best adheres to the practice of literary criticism from the point of view of the literary essay as a quest for sense instead of certainties.

Martínez Lloréns, Felipe 27 May 2019 (has links)
[EN] The spanish mediterranean coast has been the main protagonist of an intense process of urban development from the 60s of the twentieh century. This process has been caused by the increase of economic activities based on the growth of the cities and the development of tourism. Nowadays, the Valencian Community have sixty percent of the land adjacent to the maritime terrestrial public domain (the seaside) classified as urban soil, while only twenty percent of it is covered by some figure of environmental protection. At the beginning, the urbanization of "Devesa de l¿Albufera" (Valencia) was one of the first urban prototypes proposed in Spain in order to solve the phenomenon of mass tourism, but unlike other contemporary prototypes (such as the Manga del Mar Menor, in Murcia) this one hasn¿t been never completely built. The strong citizen mobilization in defense of its territory, forced the paralysis of the project; then, the parcel initially intended to be the main tourism¿s city site, turned out to be an integrated and protected area inside the first natural park of Valencia: the natural park of L¿Albufera (PNLA). This actual research is all about the historical reconstruction of the paradigm change process, that took place in the Devesa; the planning and construction of the tourism¿s city changed once the declaration of the PNLA was obtained, then began the restoration and protection of the territory. The methodology of this research has been mainly about the identifycation of the historical milestones in the evolution of the case, the causes of this paradigm change and finally the characteristics defining the alternative paradigm derived from this change. / Martínez Lloréns, F. Colombia: Postured for Failure, a Lesson in Counterinsurgency Strategy

Brodie, Abdullah 01 January 2009 (has links)
There is little solid research that explores counterinsurgency practices against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), not only from the standpoint of what is being done, but, rather, what should be done based on past COIN successes. Notable works on counterinsurgency in Colombia include the research of Tom Marks, who focused on operational strategy and tactics; Kevin Self, who professes the importance of controlling territory in defeating the FARC, by addressing the social and institutional ills within Colombia itself; and Dennis Rempe, who notes US involvement in shaping Colombia's COIN strategy. Using a comparative case study model, this thesis provides an analysis of Colombia?s counterinsurgency (COIN) strategies and tactics through the lens of successful and unsuccessful COIN operations in Iraq, Algeria, Malaya, South Vietnam, Thailand, Algeria and El Salvador over the course of the 20th and early 21st centuries. After all, no matter how successful a COIN force is militarily, their accomplishments will ultimately be fruitless if the conditions which fuel insurgency remains present. This paper begins by providing the historical context for the conditions which shaped the Colombian social order, which led to the revolutionary movement. It then follows the growth of the FARC, examining that organization?s strengths and weaknesses. The FARC is contrasted by outlining recent COIN transformation efforts within the Colombian government, to include little acknowledged failures and successes, strengths and weaknesses. An important focus is placed on Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez? Democratic Security Policy as the model for Colombia?s current COIN efforts. After next examining various ongoing factors contributing to the Colombian insurgency?to include institutional failures, illicit funding and the problem of paramilitary groups?this thesis examines past COIN efforts by other governments. Finally, after applying lessons learned from thee past COIN efforts?cross-referencing historically successful and unsuccessful tactics with tactics used and not used by Bogota in its fight against the FARC?I provide recommendations to the government of Colombia (GOC) on how to improve its COIN efforts. Although it is important to look at this problem set from an external standpoint, we must still factor in internal factors that have limited Colombia?s ability to emerge victorious, such as allowing porous borders, airspace and coastlines; placing a priority on killing or capturing the enemy and not on engaging the population; and the primacy of military direction of counterinsurgency; disregard of basic human rights; an insufficient judiciary structure; failure to halt financial support mechanisms; and the lack of an outlet for political inclusion . From this vantage point, we will be able to see that these elements?when properly implemented?have proven successful over time and may enhance GOC success and ultimately result in victory over the insurgency that has plagued their country for 40+ years
