Muncie Art Center, a performing art center integrated with a commercial center

Kim, Kang-Soo January 1983 (has links)
This is the documentation of my thesis -in which the project designed was a performing arts center for Muncie, Indiana. The project includes a 1,000 seat theatre, a gallery, several shops and studios, exhibition areas, restaurants, stores, offices, and a parking structure. The art center is proposed for the southern end of Walnut Plaza in Muncie. It is bounded by Howard Street on the north, High Street on the west, Mulberry Street on the east, and Seymour Street on the south. The site chosen was of particular importance, since the activities that would take place in the Muncie Art Center would attract more people to Walnut Plaza. Also the relocation of the Muncie Civic Theatre into the Muncie Art Center would offer more cultural services to its patrons. The Muncie Art Center would act as a catalyst for the cultural development of the greater Muncie area. / Department of Architecture

A performing arts center on the Potomac

Pribish, Robert E. January 1990 (has links)
The nature of Architecture, as it could exist at the edge of a river, was investigated through the design of a Center for Performing Arts located on the design of a Center for Performing Arts located on the Potomac River. Site analysis, functional requirements and structural feasibility were among the considerations utilized in arriving at the proposed design. The Center is comprised of three theaters, restaurants, a marina, administration offices, guest suites, and their ancillary spaces. Six stair towers support a thick wall which is situated at the river’s edge. Stage areas for the theatres were located within the wall between pairs of towers, with seating on one side of the wall and backstage areas on the other. A serpentine “riverwalk” connects the towers and four plazas, encouraging public use of the river’s edge. Parking is provided by a crescent-shaped garage which also serves as a buffer to the adjacent expressway traffic. / Master of Architecture

The design of a new music centre in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

Ruytenberg, Christelle. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Architecture (Professional) / South Africa has some way to go before it catches up to developed countries in terms of musical education and production. Since musical skills are expensive to develop, and not currently taught at school level, a lack of funding results in many impoverished individuals missing out on the opportunity to develop musical skills that could ultimately bring about multiple career opportunities. This dissertation involves the design of a music centre on the periphery of Sunnyside, for surrounding school pupils and local youths. The centre will function as a musical education facility and public meeting space, in an urban district. The development of this new facility would hopefully act as a catalyst for the rejuvenation of the pedestrian walkway next to the Walker Spruit; by integrating and redesigning the green space next to the proposed site

The design of a performing arts centre in Pretoria, Tshwane

Connell, Belinda. January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (MTech. degree in Architecture (Professional))--Tshwane University of Technology, 2011. / Probably one of the strongest common threads running through the multi-cultural society of South Africa is its passion and love for the public performing arts. The thesis therefore encompasses the design of a Performing Arts Centre in Pretoria. The intention is to use the building and surrounding urban space to promote performing arts activities, where they can be taught, refined and performed. The intent is to provide a building which will not only house the performing arts, but also engage the urban place as a public performance stage.
