Imreh, Nicolas 11 April 2018 (has links)

Graffites et société en Gaule lyonnaise : contribution à l'étude des inscriptions gravées sur vaisselle céramique / Graffiti and society in Gallia Lugdunensis : contribution to the study of engraved inscriptions on pottery tableware

Andrieu, Morgane 28 November 2015 (has links)
Latin writing is one of the main types of evidence for studying the Gallo-Roman period. Contacts between Romans and natives have favoured its spread throughout Gaul. Although few traces have remained, writing is a valuable testimony of the past and the objective of this thesis is to study its everyday use in the capital cities of Gallia Lugdunensis through the examples of Autun, Chartres and Sens (France). Therefore, this study is based on the analysis of the incised inscriptions (graffiti) on pottery tableware which was an everyday object accessible to the entire Gallo-Roman population and made of a non-perishable material. Thus, graffiti on pottery are among the rare examples at our disposal to understand the daily epigraphic habits of the Gallo-Roman population. The first part of this work was to identify all graffiti on pottery discovered in Autun, Chartres and Sens. The missions, which were possible thanks to the help of volunteers and to the financial support of the European Archaeological Centre (Bibracte), the Ministry of Culture and Paris-Sorbonne University, allowed us to identify a total of 676 graffiti, most of them are unpublished. All are listed, illustrated and discussed in the catalogue of this thesis. The study of the corpus includes the inscriptions, their linguistic and palaeographic analysis, the identification and the dating of their support and context of discovery. The messages transmitted by these inscriptions were different contents, wishes, dedications, etc.), but most consisted of ownership marks incised on quality crockery. The study reveals similar epigraphic practices in the three cities and the comparison with the results of previously published studies shows that these epigraphic codes are used far beyond the borders of Gallia Lugdunensis.

Entre a ermida e a cidade: solitários sociáveis e a produção de significado no século XII / A poem of Paganus Bolotinus canon of Chartres in the first half of the 12th century

Castanho, Gabriel de Carvalho Godoy 11 May 2007 (has links)
This work deals with a poem of Paganus Bolotinus canon of Chartres in the first half of the 12th century. Under the clergy\'s writing a lot of attacks are done on alleged hermits who wander around that region spreading the doctrines of the new religions. Due to this fact they are considered false hermits. The study of these verses written against the false hermits, who go to the city in order to preach, allowed us to go further the walls of Chartres. In the first place, the analysis of the structure of the poetic discourse made possible to give sense to the document and to verify the recognition of those to whom the canon\'s words were addressed. Then, once the characters in the narrative were understood, we established some grounds about the medieval eremitism, showing the necessity to think it as a plural phenomenon, in order to consider if any non-orthodox practices and representations existed among those attracted by the different aspects of this type of religious life. Finally, we made some comments about the theoretical aspect that involves the work of the historian who reflects on cultural levels and its dynamics, always having in mind the relations with the studied society and the written form imprinted in the textual report that is his object of research

Lake-Giguère, Danny 04 1900 (has links)
At the beginning of the XVth century, domanial forests became a major issue in the affairs of the kingdom of France. Managed by the Waters and Forests administration, they were put under close surveillance by the king’s decree. The study of Hector de Chartres’ customary, a XVth century register containing the customs of hundreds of users of Charles VI’s norman domain’s forests, reveals the place that they held in France at the end of the Middle Ages. It shows first that they were not only important in the province’s economic life but that they also played a major role in its urban and rural life. It also shows, with the analysis of a XIVth and XVth century corpus of royal ordonnances, how they were important for the king, who took there the ressources he needed to build a navy and maintain his fortresses in Normandy and who benefited from the users’ royalties. Thus, a complex relation which greatly benefited the two parties was created through a complex system of customs and royalties. By trying to protect these benefits, the kings of France tried to manage adequately their forests, establishing the bases of sustainable forestry oriented towards the conservation of forest ressources and acting as gardians of the kingdom’s common good.
