This study aimed to develop and to find out evidence of validity and reliability of the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the Child Drawing: Hospital (CD: H); a projective measure of stress due to hospitalization of children and adolescents. After going through a process of translation and adaptation based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, the CD: H was applied to the sample of children and adolescents recruited from hospitals (n = 81) and a school (n = 76 ) located in Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Were obtained satisfactory levels of inter-rater and intra-rater agreement for the three parts (A, B and C) and the Total score of the instrument. The internal consistency of Part A can also be considered satisfactory. The scores of the three parts and the Total CD: H were higher in the hospital sample. By classifying these scores according to the stress levels, there was a predominance of Low Level in both groups, but there are more participants in the hospital with Significant Stress and more cases of Coping in the school. So were obtained the first evidences of discriminant validity and reliability of the Brazilian version of the CD: H.
