Estuda os processos de construção e re-configuração da cidade e do território do Oeste paulista, compreendido geográfica e historicamente como a porção do estado de São Paulo praticamente despovoada até 1900. Estabelece dois períodos significativos para o entendimento do processo de urbanização ao longo do século XX, relacionando as mudanças na configuração física aos momentos de ruptura na maneira de pensar a cidade e o território, numa opção conceitual que articula os termos processo e projeto. No primeiro momento, a construção do território e da rede de cidades, descendente de um processo de racionalização econômica do território produtivo, aliando as redes de mobilidade (ferrovias) e o mercado de solos, rebateu a sua estratégia de desenho para a organização da cidade, a qual se superpunham modelos urbanísticos europeus pela ação dos engenheiros-urbanistas. Numa outra ocasião, a re-configuração do território encontrou motivações no desígnio da integração nacional, na ideologia do planejamento e no incremento da industrialização paulista, que promoveram a instalação da matriz rodoviária de mobilidade, o crescimento da urbanização do estado, e a re-modelação da forma e da paisagem da cidade do Oeste paulista paralelamente à atuação do planejamento urbano. A observação do objeto frente às questões contemporâneas sugere um quadro urbano resultante dos desdobramentos dos dois períodos superpostos às novas territorialidades e às novas formas de urbanização da era das tecnologias de informação e comunicação e do capitalismo avançado. / This study focus on the processes of construction and re-configuration of the west São Paulo State territory and city, geographically and historically defined as the portion of São Paulo State practically uninhabited until 1900. It establishes two significant periods for understanding the urbanization process along the XX century, linking the physical configuration to the moments of rupture in the manner of thinking the city and the territory, in a conceptual option which articulates the terms process and design. First, the construction of the territory and the cities net, descending from an economic rationalization process of the productive territory, along with the mobility nets (railways) and the land market, reflected its design strategy upon the city organization, where European urban models were superposed by urban engineers. In another occasion, the territory reconfiguration met motivation in national integration, planning ideology, and the region industrialization progress, which promoted the highway system installation, the state urban growth, and the remodeling of the shape and landscape, along with urban planning. The observation of the object facing contemporaneous issues suggests an urban panel resulting from the unfolding of the two periods superposed on the new territoriality and on new ways of urbanization in the information technology, communication and advanced capitalism age.

Buscou-se compreender a interação rural-urbano presente na vila do distrito, considerando as relações que os moradores da vila estabelecem no espaço em que vivem, as relações que possuem com o distrito sede e o mundo externo, em um movimento dialético. Aborda-se a interação desses dois espaços e o resultado que essa relação proporciona sendo que a justificativa dessa investigação constitui-se pela falta de estudos voltados à complexidade das relações que esses locais têm com os respectivos municípios, como se organizam politicamente e como se caracterizam as relações sociais, comerciais e culturais nessas sedes rurais urbanizadas, bem como as relações das pessoas que habitam nos distritos com a sede municipal e o sentimento de pertencimento ao lugar que habitam. Discutiu-se conceitos de cultura, lugar, relação rural-urbano, para compreender a dinâmica na qual a vila do distrito está inserida.
