Carpio García, Jaime 14 October 2013 (has links)
Occasionally cracks in large structural steel components are detected after hot dip galvanizing. In recent years some research projects have been performed in order to solve the problem, and they have made great progress, but they have focused on the large scale, without studying the micromechanisms involved in the failure. This thesis presents a microscopic qualitative model that explains, in every stage of the process, the mechanism of failure during hot dip galvanizing of structural steels at a level of detail that allows you to give recommendations to the galvanizers so as to reduce to the maximum the listed failures, and be the basis for the development of future standardization which would eliminate the problem.
