Were done two experiments were carried out with the objective of evaluating behaviors of piglets weaned at different ages when subjected to challenges to the labyrinth high cross with wood wall. In each experiment were 50 commercial hybrid piglets (whole and castrated males) were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design in a plot of plots repeated in time with two treatments and 25 replicates, the animal being an experimental unit. In experiment 1, the piglets were submitted to two treatments to the labyrinth at 13 and 34 days of age, while in experiment 2, the piglets were submitted to labyrinth at 22, 35, and 51 days of age. Blood samples were collected from the piglets after observation in the labyrinth. In both experiments, piglets weaned at 34 and 35 days of age presented better performance than those weaned at 12 and 21 days. Piglets weaned at 12 days had lower amounts of thyroid hormones at 35 days than those weaned at 34 days of age. Piglets weaned at 21 and 34 days of age, when first brought to the labyrinth, remained similarly on the crosshead in both trials. In the second experiment piglets with 35 and 51 days of age, in both treatments, had a better response time finding the exit when compared to the weaned at 12 and 21 days. It was concluded that piglets weaned earlier had more fear and difficulty in dealing with new situations and that early weaning negatively influences the memory and learning of the piglets.
