Proposal to First Union Bank for corporate sponsorship of Virginia Tech athleticsHerbster, David M. 24 October 2009 (has links)

These two service-oriented entities, First Union and Virginia Tech, both stand to benefit
by teaming up to form a partnership in service. First Union would gain exposure in
markets they need to strengthen as well as markets they are interested in entering. First
Union would receive access to all incoming students as well as those already at Virginia
Tech in addition to all alumni. Virginia Tech's positive influence on southwest Virginia
could help reestablish First Union's service oriented image in this area after the merger
with Dominion Bank. In return, Virginia Tech can receive a financial commitment from
First Union, as well as the association with one of the premiere banks in the nation. / Master of Science

A manual for the management of indoor track meets at Virginia TechJoyce, Barry V. 27 April 2010 (has links)
Adequate organization and planning are vital to all aspects of successful athletic administration and event management. Hosting are the keys to any athletic event involves responsibilities in a diverse number of areas such as concessions, security, and tickets. A written game operations manual that outlines the tasks to be done in each area of event preparation serves as a useful administrative tool to ensure all necessary steps are taken so that the contest runs as efficiently as possible.

The problem that serves as the basis for this project is
that Virginia Tech does not have an operations manual for
every sport. While there are certain areas that apply to all
sports, each sport has its own unique needs that must be
considered when serving as host of an athletic contest. Track
meets in particular require a great deal more planning in
certain areas due to the large number of separate events
involved at each meet and the fact that many events are
conducted at the same time throughout the competition.

The purpose of this project was to create a meet
operations manual to assist in the administration of all
future indoor track meets hosted by Virginia Tech. The use of
this manual should serve as a reference, to the athletic
administrators and track coaches, that outlines the tasks and
preparations involved in hosting an indoor meet at the high
school and college level before the season begins, the day of
the meet, and after the season ends. It should help Virginia
Tech enhance the quality and enjoyment of each contest for all
competitors and spectators. / Master of Science in Education

The establishment of guidelines for injury waivers in college athletic programsBuckley, Keith S. 30 March 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to create guidelines of practice for college athletic directors in creating injury waivers for their departments.
It is the complexity of the different issues concerning the waiver that ledSteve Horton, an Assistant Athletic Director at Virginia Tech to suggest the need for the development of standards for collegiate athletic programs in Virginia (Horton, 1993). However, it is possible for standards to be developed that can be used for any athletic department as long as the users are aware of the applicable laws in their own states. Creation of general guidelines will provide a tool which athletic departments can use in establishing their standard of care to the athletes. The establishment of tangible guidelines may make the use of injury waivers as a defense, more plausible in court / Master of Science
