The Munich Compliance Talk entitled "Legal Privilege – What is its use actually about?" took place on April 26th, 2016 at the Literaturhaus Munich. At this event, which has been organized together by the Deutschen AnwaltSpiegel – Gruppe and Recommind, compliance professionals, namely lawyers, employees of in-house legal departments, compliance officers and compliance managers have been present. The conference program included impulsive lectures by the experts Dr. Burkhard Schmitt1 (Vice President, Head of EMEIA Compliance at Fujitsu, Munich) and Patrick Späth2, LL.M. (Counsel of WilmerHale in Berlin). Emphasis was – among other things - placed on the legal framework of legal privilege. Moreover the focus was on the company's point of view, thus the question, how to deal with legal privilege in the company.

PRΕLIMINARY ANALYSIS OF DRUG ADHERENCE OF PATIENTS WITH ULCERATIVE COLITIS Author: Konstantina Tsianou Tutor: Prof. Jiri Vlcek Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Hradec Kralove, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic Aim of diploma thesis: To investigate the role of the beliefs of patients suffering with Ulcerative Colitis about medicines according to age group (group 1: age between 20-45 years old versus group 2: age between 46-65 years old). The study employs the Belief about Medicine Questionnaire to measure the adherence of patients with Ulcerative Colitis in Greece. Method: This study was conducted using the Greek version of the BMQ that has been translated from English into Greek language by a professional bilingual translator and then translated back into English by a native English speaker in a previous study. Results: Our study is resulted to the lowest accepting belief group ratio (12.8%) along with the highest results for ambivalent and indifferent belief group ratios (31.2% and 40%, respectively). Conclusion: The Greek version of the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire presented satisfactory psychometric/measurement properties indicating its reliability for use in patients with IBD who receive care in an outpatient hospital clinic. Thesis (M.M. (Public and Development Management))--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, Graduate School of Public and Development Management, 2014. / Microenterprises have the potential to address the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality because of the opportunities they present to the socially and economically disadvantaged in South Africa. This has a spillover effect of growing the economy. However, the challenges faced by tax compliant microenterprises as uncovered in this qualitative research, limits them in meeting potential. Twelve respondents comprising of three clusters (tax practitioners, microenterprise owners and SARS official) were purposefully and conveniently sampled to give their views and opinions about the challenges. The lack of expertise, SARS' evolving rules and regulations, financial costs of being compliant, onerous tax compliance preparations, and constitutional ambiguity and unclear definition of microenterprises were observed to be the major challenges that tax compliant microenterprises face. Although the South African government is not oblivious of the dilemma that tax compliant microenterprises often find themselves in, more needs to be done to ease their plight in operating in an enabling business environment. This study provides an insight into the current and future tax issues that government needs to address towards creating an enabling tax environment for businesses. The scope of this paper is limited as the researcher sought to bring to light the challenges faced by microenterprises. Other emerging issues, such as the benefits of being compliant could not be fully established and paves the way for further research.

Folker Bittmann is a chief prosecutor and has served as head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Dessau-Roßlau, Germany since 2005. Prior to his current position, he worked as a lawyer in Heidelberg, a prosecutor in Darmstadt and Frankfurt, and a chief prosecutor in Halle/Saale. He is the editor and author of a handbook on criminal insolvency law, as well as an author of various articles on property law, white-collar crime, and criminal procedure law. Additionally, he is an advisor to an association on white-collar crime (Wirtschaftsstrafrechtliche Vereinigung e.V.) and is a member of the practice group of the Center for Criminal Compliance at the University of Gießen.

Amir S. Dhillon was a student on the inaugural LWOW X program in 2014 and later became the first LWOW Jim Ferraro Intern. Amir’s active participation and experiences as a student and intern in LWOW X led him to Axiom, where he works as the Lawyer Development Coordinator in the London office. John P. Giraudo is a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute. He has been the chief compliance officer of several global companies, including The AES Corporation and Tessera Technologies, Inc. He is a Compliance Thought Leader for the University of Miami Law School’s program LawWithoutWalls.

Peter Kurer is a partner with the private equity firm BLR. He studied law and political science at the University of Zurich and the University of Chicago, and started his professional career with the international law firm Baker & McKenzie, where he became a partner in 1985. In 1990, Peter Kurer was a founding partner of the Zurich law firm Homburger, where he headed the corporate law practice group. He specialized in M&A and corporate law and also served on a number of boards of public and private companies. In 2001, Peter Kurer joined UBS as general counsel and member of the group executive board. He served as chairman of the bank during the crisis of 2008–2009 and then retired. He also is chairman of Swiss book publisher Kein & Aber, sits on a number of boards and acts as a independent adviser. Peter Kurer writes and speaks frequently on M&A topics, corporate governance issues, and legal and compliance risk management. His new book, Legal and Compliance Risk: a Strategic Response to a Rising Threat for Global Business, was published by Oxford University Press in February 2015.
