Multimedia learning -- Collaborative authoring of Hypercard stacks -- Student construction of meaning.

This project was started with JDK Version 1.0 and was later upgraded to version JDK Version 1.2.2, to create a graphical user interface using the Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT) to a HyperCard bibliography of software engineering. The bibliographic index tool is designed to facilitate searching for text and is run as a Java applet. It presents an alphabetically ordered list of author names and subjects. With the bibliography index tool one can manipulate a bibliographic list directly over the World Wide Web on a computer that lists electronic bibliographies.

This project simulates a real company by using Dreamweaver UltraDev, 4.0. A simulated electronic commerce web site was created to present all aspects of electronic commerce including future trends.

The project used Macromedia Flash MX to develop a series of web-based animated drawing lessons for first grade students.

A Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. This project created the program, "Wiki-Style Administration of Online Course Content" (WAOCC) which can be used as a teaching assistant board. Students can edit their works online and the instructor can review the work and correct it directly if necessary from the WAOCC.

This project proposes an automated system that allows a registered user to post questions to a web-based database of technical experts. This enables the user to have a quicker response time to their questions. The users questions and answers are posted to the website.

This project describes DRG (Dynamic Report Generator). This program can be used on the internet to summarize the content of a database based on user criteria. DRG allows the user to choose a database, input the data, and generate a report based on user input, and print out the results in a new format. This paper describes the design and analysis of the DRG program.

Quality assurance forms an integral part of education and training programme delivery. The purpose of this research was to determine whether the quality management systems (QMS) used by nursing education institutions in Gauteng are aligned to the SAQA criteria and guidelines for education and training providers. A quantitative, descriptive and exploratory design was followed using a self-administered questionnaire as data gathering instrument. A total of 32 respondents from three selected nursing education institutions completed the questionnaire. The data were analysed by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The findings revealed that the nursing education institutions only partially comply with SAQA’s core criteria for quality management systems. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of normal instruction supplemented by the computer-assisted instruction English program Grammar Game on achievement and attitude scores of vocational-technical students in Thailand. The experimental design was a 2 x 2 factorial ANOVA design. One hundred seventy-eight students at the Lanna Polytechnical College in Thailand were randomly selected from the population of 10 classrooms. Four classes were intact groups, with two classes randomly assigned to the experimental groups which received Lecture/CAI and the other two as control groups which received Lecture. The 89 students in each group were divided into high- and low- ability, based on their previous English scores. Subjects received treatment for nine weeks. Pre-test and post-test instruments on achievement and attitude were administered to both groups. The Statistical Analysis System (SAS), and the General Linear Model (GLM) package computer program yielded the MANOVA results. Based on data analysis, the findings were as follows: (1) There was a significant difference between the students in a Lecture/CAI English program and the students in a Lecture English program when they were compared simultaneously on the achievement and attitude scores, F(l, 176) = 18.97, p < .05. (2) There was no significant interaction between the types of teaching methods and levels of ability when achievement was used as the dependent variable, F(l, 174) = .48, p > .05. (3) There was no significant interaction between the types of teaching methods and levels of ability when attitude was used as the dependent variable, F(l, 174) = .06, p > .05. The conclusion was that normal instruction supplemented by CAI improved achievement and attitude scores. On the other hand, the effect of two types of methods on achievement remained the same for high- and low-ability students and so did the effect of two types of methods on attitude. Future research should examine different CAI software packages, CAI within a full year, the effects of ability on achievement and attitude, background knowledge, more levels of independent variables, characteristics of an effective CAI program, and a case study with larger population in Thailand.

Traditionally, connection management applications (referred to as patchbays) for high-speed audio networking, are predominantly developed using third-generation languages such as C, C# and C++. Due to the rapid increase in distributed audio/video network usage in the world today, connection management applications that control signal routing over these networks have also evolved in complexity to accommodate more functionality. As the result, high-speed audio networking application developers require a tool that will enable them to develop complex connection management applications easily and within the shortest possible time. In addition, this tool should provide them with the reliability and flexibility required to develop applications controlling signal routing in networks carrying real-time data. High-speed audio networks are used for various purposes that include audio/video production and broadcasting. This investigation evaluates the possibility of using Adobe Flash Professional 8, using ActionScript 2.0, for developing connection management applications. Three patchbays, namely the Broadcast patchbay, the Project studio patchbay, and the Hospitality/Convention Centre patchbay were developed and tested for connection management in three sound installation networks, namely the Broadcast network, the Project studio network, and the Hospitality/Convention Centre network. Findings indicate that complex connection management applications can effectively be implemented using the Adobe Flash IDE and ActionScript 2.0.
