Vliv kongresového cestovního ruchu na hotelnictví v Praze / The influence of congress tourism on hospitality in Prague

The aim of the thesis is to analyze the influence of congress tourism on hospitality in Prague. The work aims to determine how much is the congress tourism important for hotels and if they can survive without it. The partial aims are then evaluation of the current situation of congress tourism in Prague by statistics, further evaluation of the situation and analysis of the selected hotel with an annual interval. Last but not least finding the factors upon which firms base their decisions when selecting event at the hotel. The last chapter deals with proposals to improve the situation in hotels.

This thesis is focused on the congress tourism in Prague, which is the main congress destination of the Czech Republic. The first part aims to characterize and to map congress tourism in Prague with an emphasis on the potential of Prague as a congress destination. The thesis also describes the mechanisms of both domestic and foreign congress tourism market, including subjects, which operate on them. The subject of the next part is a comparison with selected congress destinations. The last part will focus on analysis of a company GUARANT International, which is representative of the professional congress organizer in Prague. The aim of the analysis is to assess the company's position in the domestic and foreign markets, for which competition analysis will be used. The last part will be a SWOT analysis and the results will be compared with the new company strategy.

International conference site selection criteria : And a case study of Stockholm as an international conference city

The purpose of this thesis is to identify the destination site selection criteria for internationalconferences from the perspectives of the three main players of the conference industry,conference buyers (organizers and delegates) and suppliers. Additionally, the researchidentifies the strengths and weaknesses of the congress cities of Stockholm and Vienna.Through a comparison with Vienna, the top city for hosting international conferences, a roadmap for Stockholm has been designed, to strengthen its congress tourism opportunities, thus,obtaining a higher status as an international congress city. This qualitative research hascombined both primary and secondary data methods, through semi-standardized expertinterviews and secondary studies respectively, to fulfil the study’s aim. The data have beenanalysed by applying the techniques of qualitative content analysis; the secondary dataadopting an inductive approach according to Mayring (2003) while the expert interviewsusing a deductive approach according to Meuser & Nagel (2009). The conclusions of thesecondary data have been further compared and contrasted with the outcomes of the primarydata, to propose fresh discoveries, clarifications, and concepts related to the site selectioncriteria for international conferences, and for the congress tourism industry of Stockholm. Theresearch discusses the discoveries of the site selection criteria, the implications of thestrengths and weaknesses of Stockholm in comparison to Vienna, recommendations forStockholm via a road map, and future research areas in detail. The findings andrecommendation, not only provide specific steps and inceptions that Stockholm as aninternational conference city can apply, but also propose findings, which can aid conferencebuyers and suppliers to cooperate, to strengthen their marketing strategies and developsuccessful international conferences and destinations to help achieve a greater competitiveadvantage.

Congress tourism represents one of the most dynamically evolving areas of the travel industry. Over the course of several years the Czech Republic has become a very important congress destination not only in Europe but on a wordwide basis. Some of the positive aspects of the Czech Republic as a congress destination are its attractiveness as a tourist destination, its well-developed infrastructure, its perfect position in Europe (the heartbeat of Europe) and the security of the Central European region. All this means that the Czech Rebublic has all the presumptions to become a major congress destination. The target of this work is to refer to the particular business of the tourist trade and to analyse the accounting of a given corporation. The theoretical part of the work is given to the specific topics of the accounnting. It is clear that accounting is a very wide field so for this work was chosen the most interesting aspects of the subject. The practical part is focused on accounting and taxes methods that Congress Center XY uses to provide the veritable information about its economic situation. These methods were demonstrated on the basis of practical cases that turned up through the year 2009.

This diploma paper deals with a description and an analysis of the position of the Czech Republic and its regions in the field of the Congress Tourism. The first part of the paper contains a theoretic definition of the Congress Tourism. The another part devotes itself to the position of the Congress Tourism in the world and there are international organizations operating in the area of the Congress Tourism mentioned, and also a comparison of individual countries, or more precisely cities, by the medium of international statistics presented. Furthermore, there is a position of the Czech Republic as a whole described, most important organizations specified and a position of the regions based on the data of the Czech Statistical Office outlined. The last part of the diploma paper contains a description of the conditions for the Congress Tourism of the individual regions of the Czech Republic. At the conclusion, there are knowledges from the previous parts summarized.

The diploma thesis deals with the presidency of the Czech Republic in the European Union which was in progress during the first half of 2009. Two main goals of the thesis were, first, to describe the presidency in context of congress tourism and, second, to analyze the impacts of the presidency on tourism in the Czech Republic. In the thesis there is described the mechanism of the organization of the presidency in detail, i.e. how were organized the conferences and congresses of the EU taking place in the Czech Republic during the presidency. Then, there is an analysis of both short-run and long-run impacts of the presidency on tourism and congress tourism in the Czech Republic. The thesis is theoretically based on characteristics of tourism, congress tourism, Council of the EU and the presidency in the Council.
