The development of a microcomputer controlled multielectrode potentiostat and a 32-electrode thin-layer flow-cell /

DeAbreu, Michael Paul January 1988 (has links)
The thin-layer flow-cell incorporated an array of 32 gold strip electrodes in a serial configuration opposite a platinum counter electrode. The cell body was made of Macor glass ceramic. A photolithographic procedure for etching the Macor and a simple method of applying a gold ink was devised. Resistive feedback current-to-voltage converters independently controlled the potential difference between the electrodes of the array and the common counter electrode. A microcomputer and a customized high speed data acquisition interface recorded the current response of each electrode. An expression for the faradaic response of a single electrode within a rectangular flow channel was modified to predict the behavior of the multi-electrode flow-cell. The quinone/hydroquinone redox system was used to evaluate the performance of the detector. Summing the signals from the array when all electrodes were held at the same potential improved the signal-to-noise ratio. Hydrodynamic curves were reconstructed from the currents measured at each electrode when a ramp potential profile was applied to the array.

Top-down scaling analysis of the integral reactor vessel test facility

Graves, Joshua D. 07 December 2012 (has links)
Oregon State University has conducted research in collaboration with TerraPower, LLC, to perform a top-down scaling analysis of an integrated test facility. The goal of this facility is to simulate transient and quasi-steady phenomena at a reduced scale, including steady-state operation, pump coastdown, natural circulation, reactor head heat transfer, and coolant stratification. To support this goal, this thesis presents the methodology and analysis by which approximate facility dimensions were generated. This analysis includes implementation of the hierarchical two-tiered scaling methodology, as outlined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and optimization through the general reduced gradient methodology. / Graduation date: 2013

Avaliação da implantação de sistemas de gestão da qualidade em construtoras : estudo de caso do estado do Piauí / Evaluation of quality management system implementation in construction industry : case suduty in the state of Piauí

Orientador: Flavio Augusto Picchi / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Civil, Arquitetura e Urbanismo / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-27T12:38:34Z (GMT). Since the 80¿s it is observed in the country a tendency to apply Quality Management tools in several areas. In the construction companies, it is noticed ¿ through state programs ¿ a strong movement towards implementation and certification of Quality Management Systems such as: NBR ISO 9001:2000, QUALIHAB, SiQ-C of PBQP-H (known as SiAC nowadays), among others. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of Quality Management System implementation in construction companies of the State of Piauí, and its results and impacts on the productive chain (suppliers, contractors, employees and clients). The study case was the main research method adopted, as it was used in two different moments: when the pioneer group received its level "B" qualification and after the level "A" audition. The Study Cases were preceded by: literature research, to identify the results of Quality Management System implementation, especially in the Brazilian construction field; survey with the state representatives, to obtain information on other states evaluations; and therefore establish the criteria that based semi-structured forms used in interviews taken inside the companies. With the application of this research tool, it was possible to characterize the PBQP-H in the State of Piauí, and to notice that the results were not different from the other states¿ regarding motivations and main difficulties, as well as the changes brought to the companies and its productive chain by the achievement of SiQ-C level "A". As main conclusions of the State of Piauí evaluation, are presented: the great dependency of CAIXA exigency and the isolation of the SINDUSCON, no participation of main public contracting; the organization perception for the results and the productivity growth on the level "A" companies, followed by part of material suppliers and contractors improvement; the amount of companies that quitted the program pointing the financial aspect as the main cause for dropping the program / Mestrado / Arquitetura e Construção / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

Strength evaluation of strut-purlins

Hatch, Gerald L. 09 May 2009 (has links)
Diaphragm braced strut-purlins are commonly used in the roof systems of metal buildings. However, the design problem of combined uplift and axial loads on these members is not adequately addressed in the 1989 AISI specification. The objective of this thesis is to provide experimental evidence that strut-purlins can be designed with an existing interaction equation. It was a/so the objective of this thesis to find a method of determining the axial capacity of diaphragm braced strut-purlins and to experimentally verify the accuracy of the method. / Master of Science
