Fay Jones and his residential clients : communicating through the details

Poepsel, Brian 2013 May 1900 (has links)
The residential designs of Fay Jones embody the ideals of organic architecture in the highest degree. Working in the tradition of Frank Lloyd Wright, Jones produced a wide range of houses that represent an intensely personal endeavor. Although the chapels and public pavilions designed by Jones are his most famous works, the meticulous construction detailing and elaborate material joints in Jones' houses reward long-term residents, who discover new details and new compositions of light and shadow for years after moving into their homes. The careful working and reworking of details contribute to a unifying generative idea that enforces the part-to-whole relationship of organic building, but it is also an outpouring of Jones' belief that caring is an “imperative moral issue.” It is difficult to occupy a Jones building or study the work without getting swept up in Jones' notion that “[one] must idealize, even romanticize, what [one] is doing.” Through a consideration of clients' relationships with Fay Jones and the spaces they occupy, this study reflects on Jones' hope that “perhaps the inhabitants can be more comfortably and more meaningfully integrated into the natural forces of life.” Jones' thoughts about architecture, recorded in his journals and lecture notes, reinforce the accounts of key, residential clients who benefited from Jones' earnestness about building and living. The carefully arranged joint details of Jones' designs form a physical representation of the close relationships of Jones, his clients, and the craftsmen who built the work. / text

Underlag för projektering av sockelkonstruktioner : En kvalitativ analys av sockelkonstruktionen utifrån kriterierna funktion, byggbarhet, beständighet och utformning / A Guide for Base Construction : A Qualitative Analysis of the Connection Between Outer Wall and Ground Plate

Gustafson, Anna, Krogh, Jenny January 2019 (has links)
Mer ingående rekommendationer återfinns i rapporten under slutsatser. / The base of the construction where the outer wall is connected to the ground plate is the connection dealt with in this report. We refer to it as the base. The base leads the loads from the building down to the ground and is supposed to protect the building from outer impact. This part of the building shell is well exposed with the Swedish climate and in constant contact with wet ground. Forming a base is difficult in many ways and demands knowledge in many different areas. It takes a great amount of time and it is hard to be sure that you fulfill the specific demand of each construction in each project. The aim of this report is to make the process of forming a base easier and better for the sponsoring company Kåver & Mellin. The report is supposed to lead to a written report that could be used as a guide when forming bases. The report is based on the four criterias: function, constructability, constancy and shaping. The result came from studying literature, interviewing experts in the branch of building construction combined with sorting drawings of bases from former projects at Kåver & Mellin. The result has been analyzed and lead to several wide and narrow conclusions about bases. The result showed that there are many ways of forming a base to reach the demand of each project. Aspects to think about when forming a base is the demands of each project and the materials and connections in the base. The result also showed that there are no clear directions of how to form a base in a building. Different laws and rules can be read in different ways depending on who is reading which shows that the guidelines could be clearer. This report is a guide of how to think when forming a base in a building.

Sportovní centrum Jihlava, stavebně technologická příprava stavby / Sports center Jihlava, civil technological project

Nevole, Jan January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this final thesis is to design selected parts of construction technology project for building used as an sports centrum in Jihlava. The attachments provide a solution of upper structural work, with focusing on floor structure forms and staircase. The thesis contains the technological procedures for constructing both variants of floor structure and staircase, principles according to which is the construction organised, safety and health measures taken on the construction site, design of the mechanical assembly, time plan, plan of inspections and testing, controlling and testing plans for both variants and construction details.

Tepelně technické posouzení stavebních konstrukcí / Thermal technical assessment of building structures

Paďouk, Jaroslav January 2016 (has links)
This theoretical diploma thesis deals with „nearly zero energy buildings“. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate building constructions based on their impact on thermal requirements fulfilment and apply results of the evaluation on a design of a nearly zero energy building. The thesis describes individual factors impacting energy consumption of a nearly zero house building, evaluates individual types of insulations systems for roof constructions, analyses window details, foundation details and connection of roof and external wall or the floor structure and external wall. The basic criteria for the evaluation is the fulfilment of the thermal requirements as well as the costs of the construction itself and energy consumption for the individual construction or detail. The specialized part of the thesis deals with design and comparison of 2 types of timber roof truss systems, the purlin roof and the collar roof. The suitability of the roof systems for nearly zero energy building is evaluated as well. The result of he thesis is the proposal of solutions for the nearly zero energy building. The proposal consists of layout solutions, design of suitable construction system, load-bearing system including drawings. The output is also Energy Performance Certificate.
