Content policies in Social Media Critical Discourse Studies: The invisible hand of social media providers?

Kopf, Susanne January 2019 (has links) (PDF)
This paper complements theoretical and methodological considerations regarding social media in critical discourse studies as it addresses social media content policies as a key contextual element. Specifically, this paper argues that - and why - the exploration of content policies and their enforcement is indispensable when approaching social media platforms and social media data in particular from a critical perspective. A number of researchers have already begun to identify contextual elements that require particular attention when viewing social media and social media data through a CDS lens. However, social media sites' content policies, as pervasive contextual element, have not received adequate research attention yet. Drawing on Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis (CMDA) and recent developments in Social Media CDS (SM-CDS), this paper first demonstrates the existing gap in research. Then, it contends that social media sites' content policies deserve more detailed attention in SM-CDS, argues why this is the case and elaborates on the different aspects of content policies and policy enforcement that require examination. After detailed theoretical discussion of this, empirical evidence to support this argument is presented in the form of a case study of Wikipedia and Wikipedia data.

An analysis of the potential legal disjoint between International Investment Agreements and Local Content Policies

Lebopa, Mpho January 2019 (has links)
Many resource-rich countries have adopted domestic policies such as local content policies (LCPs) to make sure that their nationals profit from their resources and to ensure economic development for their countries. However Despite the value that LCPs bring into the local economy, they might be in conflict with international investment agreements. The study will look at what local content entails and what international investment agreements entail. The study will look into the possible areas of conflict such as employment requirements, support schemes and local procurement and determine whether such measures are in conflict with international investment agreements. The findings of the study outline that local content policies are in breach with international investment agreements such as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, the Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures. / Mini Dissertation (LLM)--University of Pretoria, 2019. / Public Law / LLM / Unrestricted

Valores culturales y políticas de contenido en un canal musical de cable: Las censuras de MTV

Reátegui Montezuma, Ada Claudia 09 December 2020 (has links)
This investigation works the specific cases of the censorship of the MTV channel to the videoclips 'I want to break free' by the band Queen (1984), 'Justify very love' by Madonna (1990) and 'They don't care about us' by Michael Jackson (1995). In such a way that through this study a new and better approach is provided in the analysis of the variation of the content policies of cable television and the influence that these have among the members of a society and vice versa; it also contributes to understanding the cultural changes of a decade. It is important to work on this research since it is a topic that so far has not been analyzed in depth. / Trabajo de investigación
