Fact of Disaster Recover Plan within Information Security Management System ¡ÐExample as CTS Corporation

Lee, Chun-Lung 18 July 2003 (has links)
Abstract The motive of thesis is trying to find out the role of information system security via the researching company ¡V CTS Corporation¡¦s disaster recovery plan and present a model to discuss with that. While through the researching procedure, we found out that most of information security systems obey the BS 7799-2 and ISO 17799 even the CNS 17799 in the world. Through the help of investigation of the questionnaire, all evidence just show out that how to construct and recognize the information security system is the issue and trend for enterprise to do after the ISO 9000 and QS 9000. Since 1978, the case study company, CTS Corporation has had fire and evacuation procedures, which were informally supported by various committees. An emergency plan, which was issued March 24, 1980, incorporated the functions of these committees and provided more formalized procedures for responding to emergencies. The emergency plan was later reissued as know of ¡§CTS Corporation Disaster Recovery Plan¡¨ as one of policy to be followed. In thesis, widely discuss the risk and evaluation of information security and show up some of major case of the information security for domestic and international by sequence of the date. Present some of overview from industry¡Bgovernment and academic how to face such of information security around the enterprises. Final conduct of 10 control sets, 36 control subjects and 127 control items with 8 abstracts of ISO 17799 introduction from BS 7799-1 and BS 779902 with comparison of ISO 17799 totally. Compare and distinguish the variance from CTS Corporation and those of international standard for the information security system, we deploy 4 steps of development the information security system as of: Information Security Policy; Documentation and Implementation; Risks Management and Information Security Management Security (ISMS). Provide evidence of questionnaires of the case study company. Summary three of dimensions for five(5) issues of ¡§Environment & Infrastructure¡¨, seven(7) issues of ¡§Disaster Recovering Planning¡¨ and six(6) issues of ¡§Business Contingency Planning¡¨ to conduce a Disaster Recovery Planning¡¦s Deployment Model for seven steps of four scenario as a conclusion.

This paper analyzed the existing structures in the All Saints Bay for compliance at oil spill environmental emergencies, considered the application of bioremediation techniques of mangroves impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons, as well as community participation in mangroves recovery. It was examined the perception of shellfish community in the Mataripe, district of São Francisco do Conde - BA, related as mangroves impacts of that region. Now a day the Area Plan (contingency plan with strategies for responding to environmental emergencies) is been elaborated. The analysis of bioremediation techniques showed biostimulation and phytoremediation as techniques that best optimizes the cost-benefit ratio. The research indicates that community Mataripe - São Francisco do Conde, despite the proximity to the areas of production, and refining existing port in the northeast of Todos os Santos Bay, is the mainly factor at the mangroves degradation however, they are ready to participate in activities that turn best the local conditions and the mangroves, for example environmental education and restoration of mangroves activities, something feasible that can be a new source of income for people in the community.

Mine closure : a contingency plan to mitigate socio-economic disasters / Maria Elizabeth Ackermann

Ackermann, Maria Elizabeth January 2013 (has links)
The history of the mining industry indicates a lack of understanding among the decision-makers of the impact the closure of mines has on the industry and the associated effects on the society and surrounding environment. The policies of the mining industry do make provision for a planned mine closure, but not for an unexpected closure. This detrimental aspect of closures in the mining industry is highlighted in the present study. The present study investigates how mineworkers’ dependency on their employment at a mine affects their ability to sustain their livelihoods. Vulnerable livelihoods leave the community at a greater risk to be affected by a disaster, than the livelihoods of a community that is resilient and has sustainable resources. Even though mineworkers are not considered as poor at the time of their employment, a mine closure could render them into a status called ‘transitional poverty’. This study also highlights that mineworkers who are skilled for mining operations only do not overcome the status of ‘transitional poverty’ and hence enter a phase called ‘chronic poverty’. This stage constitutes their inability to negotiate livelihood strategies and livelihood outcomes that could sustain a household. Thus humanitarian assistance would be needed from outside sources. Planning for unexpected mine closures should also be on the agenda of the mining industry due to the extreme consequences such an event holds for the mining community experiencing the event. In the case under investigation, the unexpected mine closures occurred in the Grootvlei mine in Springs and the Orkney mine owned by the Aurora Empowerment Systems Ltd. at the time of this study. These closures left the surrounding communities in need of food, shelter and clean water. The inhabitants gradually lost their livelihood assets. A contingency planning model is proposed at the end of this study to address the short-term and long-term consequences of an unexpected mine closure. / M Development and Management, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014
