The referred poet is an interlocutor of the cultural representations and manifestations of the popular imaginary which depreciate the mother-in-law figure. The mother-in-law theme in the work of the poet from Pombal, if analyzed according to Bakhtin’s theory of polyphonic discourse, emphasizes the carnivalization of such emblematic stereotype. The methodology, presented in the analysis chapter, focuses the most prominent aspects of the research, i.e. the stigmas created by the poet of the mother-in-law figure, as well as the level of rejection of such figure. To do so, it will be analyzed the grotesque discourse of the poems and the covers of the strings, which can be a sign of the prejudice against the mother-in-law figure / Este trabalho, que tem como objeto de estudo a representação da sogra na literatura de Cordel, focaliza um estudo de caso, na ótica do poeta paraibano, da cidade de Pombal, Leandro Gomes de Barros. O poeta como interlocutor das representações e manifestações culturais do imaginário popular coletivo desmerece a figura da sogra, atribuindo-lhe diversas alcunhas pejorativas. A temática da sogra, no poeta de Pombal, sob os auspícios de um discurso polifônico, na ótica de Bakhtin, destaca a carnavalização em que se insere a figura emblemática da sogra. A metodologia, diluída ao longo da análise, se detém nos aspectos mais destacáveis da pesquisa, como seja mostrar os estigmas a que o poeta submete a figura da sogra, ao mesmo tempo encaminha para o cerne da questão, para averiguar o nível de rejeição da sogra, a partir do aspecto grotesco, presente no discurso e nas capas dos folhetos, o que justifica o índice de preconceito no tratamento dado à sogra.
