  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

Is the precision of computed solutions more closely related with componentwise condition number than normwise condition number?

Tan, Don Bing Dong 01 May 2015 (has links)
We have a conjecture that “the precision of computed solutions for systems of linear equations is more closely related with componentwise condition number c(A) than normwise condition number κ(A). We conducted simulation experiments to verify this conjecture. A statistical tool, Hotelling-Williams T-Test is employed to check if difference between correlations is significant. Simulation results suggest that our conjecture is true for most of the well-known methods and matrix sizes. An application of factor analysis on a 24-item scale on the attitudes towards AIDS precautions using Pearson, Spearman and Polychoric correlation matrices

Abdalmajid, Mohammed Babekir Elmalik January 2006 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc / The 24-item scale has been used extensively to assess the attitudes towards AIDS precautions. This study investigated the usefulness and validity of the instrument in a South African setting, fourteen years after the development of the instrument. If a new structure could be found statistically, the HIV/AIDS prevention strategies could be more effective in aiding campaigns to change attitudes and sexual behaviour. / South Africa

Rank correlation in a singly truncated bivariate normal distribution

Hume, Merril Wayne 23 December 2009 (has links)
Considerable attention has been devoted to the rank correlation coefficients of Spearman and Kendall, denoted by rS and rK respectively. These coefficients were first proposed as measures of association between two groupings, requiring no assumptions on the parent distribution of the observations. Later work considered the distributions of rS and rK when the parent distribution is the bivariate normal. This study is an investigation of the moments and related properties of Spearman's rS and Kendall's rK when the underlying distribution is the singly truncated bivariate normal. / Ph.
