Despite being provided in the Federal Constitution and the Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education, public resources invested in education have proven limited to meet the existing demand. Given the scarcity of resources invested in education and the need to invest it efficiently and effectively, this study aimed to define the calculation of cost per spot in undergraduate and postgraduate education in a center of a public University using the methodology of absorption costing. Specifically, it was sought to identify and measure the institutional costs of the Rectory and Center for the Arts; describe the cost centers involved in the analysis and analyze the cost per spot and cost for effective enrollment in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The information and data to meet these objectives were obtained through literature review and analysis of documents such as system reports and management spreadsheets. The cost calculation was performed by the method of absorption costing. The values that comprise this calculation are the costs of the Rectory of the University and the costs of the Arts Center, the latter first identified in direct costs and indirect costs for subsequent apportionment as of an indicator being established. It was noted that the cost per undergraduate spot in this case study has imported an average of R$ 23,200.72 / year and the average cost of effective enrollment in R$ 19,679.25 / year. The cost per spot in postgraduate imported an average of R$ 35,528.99 / year and the average cost of each effective enrollment at R$ 43,714.25 / year. The largest impact on the definition of the cost is the payroll of the tenured faculty, which beats on average 75% of the direct cost in undergraduate and 85% of direct costs in the postgraduate. The measurement of the cost of the spot can assist in making management decisions, aiming the efficient and effective application of public resources. / O desenvolvimento econômico e social em qualquer nação depende da educação. Apesar de estar previsto na Constituição Federal e na Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação, os recursos públicos aplicados na educação têm se mostrado limitados para atender à demanda existente. Considerando a escassez do recurso investido na educação e a necessidade de investi-lo de forma eficiente e eficaz, o objetivo, neste estudo foi o de definir o cálculo de custo por vaga em curso de graduação e pós-graduação num Centro de Ensino de uma Universidade Pública, utilizando a metodologia de custeio por absorção. Especificamente, buscou-se identificar e mensurar os custos institucionais da Reitoria e Centro de Artes; descrever os centros de custos envolvidos na análise e avaliar o custo por vaga e o da matrícula efetiva nos cursos de graduação e pós-graduação. As informações e os dados para atingir estes objetivos foram obtidos por meio da revisão da literatura e análise de documentos, como relatórios de sistemas e planilhas gerenciais. O cálculo do custo foi realizado pela metodologia de custeio por absorção. Os valores que compõem este cálculo são os custos da Reitoria da Universidade e os do Centro de Artes, sendo este último identificado, primeiramente, em custos diretos e indiretos para posterior rateio, conforme indicador estabelecido. Observou-se que o custo por vaga de graduação, neste estudo de caso, importou em uma média de R$ 23.200,72/ano e o custo médio de matrícula efetiva em R$ 19.679,25/ano. O custo por vaga de Pós-Graduação importou em uma média de R$ 35.528,99/ano e o custo médio de cada matrícula efetiva em R$ 43.714,25/ano. O maior impacto na determinação do custo é a folha de pagamento dos professores efetivos, a qual supera, na média, 75% do custo direto na graduação e 85% do custo direto na Pós-Graduação. A mensuração do custo da vaga pode auxiliar na tomada de decisões dos gestores, visando à aplicação eficiente e eficaz do recurso público.
