Economic Burden of the Nova Scotia Mumps OutbreakJanes, Ashley 03 September 2010 (has links)
Infectious disease outbreaks can have a significant impact on healthcare resources and are disruptive to routine healthcare programs and services. There is very little literature on the economic burden of infectious disease outbreaks; thus, this research attempts to provide insight into the healthcare resources used to contain a mumps outbreak.
The Nova Scotia 2007 mumps outbreak provides an opportunity to produce a costing framework to capture the economic burden an outbreak has on the Nova Scotia healthcare system. The costing framework for this study used an accounting model to costing; in particular, it used an activity-based costing approach. The total mumps outbreak cost is estimated at $2,478,500 or $3,511 per mumps case.
Given the significant impact an infectious disease outbreak has on healthcare resources, more economic evaluations should be done to help guide policies around infectious disease prevention strategies, and to maximize the allocation of healthcare resources.

Design optimisation and costing analysis of a renewable energy hydrogen system / Rudolph Petrus (Rudi) LouwLouw, Rudolph Petrus January 2012 (has links)
The South African Department of Science and Technology is striving to develop a means of producing hydrogen gas in remote and civil areas through the use of renewable energy sources. For the purposes of creating such mobile hydrogen production facilities, a small-scale hydrogen production system based on renewable energy sources needs to be developed and modelled. This system is to serve as a pilot plant for further development of a large scale mobile hydrogen production facility.
This work focuses on the characterisation of sizing algorithms for renewable energy sources which can determine component configurations that satisfy power requirements of the system. Additionally, optimal sizing techniques must be developed which can output an optimal plant configuration to a user based on cost and efficiency.
To this end, a literature study was done on all the components that make up a renewable energy hydrogen system. The techniques researched were then applied to create algorithms capable of correctly sizing the required components of such a plant. These techniques were integrated into an application created in the LabVIEW environment, which is capable of outputting an optimal plant configuration based on the specific needs of a client.
A case study was defined with which the results of the simulation models were verified. Using this work, a future, more comprehensive system may be developed and commercialised, building from the techniques implemented here. / Thesis (MIng (Computer and Electronic Engineering))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013

Kalkulace výrobních nákladů ve firmě LEXMARK, a.s. / Calculation Production Costs in Firm LEXMARK, Inc .Matelová, Bohdana January 2009 (has links)
MATELOVÁ, B. Kalkulace výrobních nákladů společnosti Lexmark, Brno. 2009 This thesis deals with the analysis of the Price sheet used by company Lexmark and based on this analysis I recommend the potential changes of this Price sheet. The price sheet is a tool for the re-invoicing of production cost between Lexmark and production subcontractors. The first part is dedicated to the theory of cost management. The next part is practical. I present the company Lexmark, describe the structure of Price sheet, production costs and cost calculation for all types of products. I close the practical part with the specification of Price sheet strong and weak points. Base on the analysis I recommend the potential changes of Price sheet, some of them are applicable immediately and next in a longer period.
