Do mesmo modo, pretende-se investigar de que maneira tais imagens dialogam com outras representações já cristalizadas acerca desses espaços. / Abstract: The objective of the present dissertation is to make a critical and systematized reading of the comic strips entitled Chico Bento - name of the character created by Maurício de Sousa - from 1982 to 2000, in order to analyze the representations elaborated concerning the rural and urban spaces and of their inhabitants. In this way, it intends to investigate that it sorts out such images dialogue with other representations crystallized of those spaces. / Mestre

Transformações que têm refletido de forma direta na reorganização dos espaços, na redefinição de relações, na constituição de novas territorialidades (rurais e urbanas). As reflexões aqui contidas foram realizadas no sentido de compreender o momento atual, sem, contudo, desvinculá-lo do processo histórico. O ponto de partida foi a busca pelas origens do processo de dicotomização entre campo e cidade, rural e urbano. Dicotomia fundamentada em mitos que ora consolidou a supremacia da cidade e do modo de vida urbano, e ora fortaleceu a idealização do campo e do modo de vida rural. Mitos historicamente construídos e que contribuíram para consolidar ideologias ainda presentes nos dias atuais. O trabalho aponta para a necessidade destituir de tais mitos ao analisar as mudanças recentes para que idealizações e depreciações não impulsionem novos equívocos. O território é um dos aportes para a compreensão da realidade em transformação. Obviamente que os desdobramentos do processo de construção do território também são analisados: territorializações, territorialidades, desterritorializações, reterritorializações. São esses processos que permitem compreender a existência de ruralidades no interior das cidades e de urbanidades no campo. São eles também que contribuem para o entendimento da nova realidade em construção que coloca em xeque interesses contraditórios, relações conflitantes. / Abstract: The present work seeks to understand the transformations occurring in the country and city because these changes reflect a reorganization of space, a redefinition of the rural and urban relation and the constitution of new territories. While analyzing current changes, the dissertation also reflects on the historical processes creating these transformations. The starting point was a search for the origins of the country-city and rural-urban dichotomies. The dissertation argues that these dichotomies were often based on myths that either sought to advance the supremacy of the city and the urban way of life or fortify the idealization of the country and the rural way of life. These representations were constructed historically, consolidating ideologies that continue to the present day.To avoid mistakes based on the idealization and depreciation of rural and urban space in the future, the dissertation deconstructs the myths. Analysis of the territory contributed to understanding the reality in transformation. In the unfolding process of construction of territory it was also necessary to examine the processes of des-territorialization, re-territorialization and territorialities. This form of analysis permitted understanding the existence of ruralities inside cities and of urbanities in the country. They also helped comprehend the continuity of contradictory interests and conflicting relations in the construction of new realities. / Mestre
