"I will utterly sweep away everything from the face of the earth": Decreation in Israel's Prophetic Literature

Tubbs Loya, Melissa January 2010 (has links)
Thesis advisor: David S. Vanderhooft / This study defines and explores the theme of decreation, or the unmaking of all creation by Yahweh or one of his agents in response to human wrongdoing, as it appears in examples of Israel's prophetic literature. In the books of Amos, Hosea, Zephaniah, and Jeremiah--which when taken together represent prophetic traditions in both the northern and southern kingdoms and range from the eighth to the sixth centuries B.C.E.--decreation is described as a reversal of creation through desiccation, flood, desolation, darkening, quaking, melting, and an annulment of the cult. The specific events that comprise decreation differ from prophet to prophet, although between texts there appears an overlap in the language and imagery used to depict the effects of Yahweh's unmaking. The reasons given for the phenomenon also vary from prophet to prophet, as the theme is recast to convey specific indictments against Israel and Judah. Some prophets identify particular crimes as the direct cause of decreation, including broken covenant provisions and the worship of foreign deities, while others speak more generally of Israel's guilt. These texts share the idea that the entire cosmos can be unmade as a result of human wrongdoing. Israel can act in ways so contrary to Yahweh's intentions for creation, in other words, that the entire system of created order is put in jeopardy and the assurances given at the moment of creation are threatened. In some instances in the prophetic literature decreation has already begun, though in others it remains a looming threat. In all cases, the examined prophets warn, decreation is a complete dismantling of created order. Given this, it is not a surprise that many prophetic depictions of decreation reflect traditions that also appear in biblical creation accounts. In particular, the descriptions of precreation found in the Priestly writer's and the Yahwist's creation narratives resonate in many prophetic portrayals of a return to the state of things before Yahweh fashioned the heavens and the earth. This and other correlations between prophetic decreation texts and the Priestly and Yahwist creation accounts raise questions in the study regarding the dating of the Pentateuchal sources. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2010. / Submitted to: Boston College. The study of oragnization knowledge creation process and affecting factors¡Xthe example of china steel knowledge creation activities

Lu, Yu-Lung 29 January 2010 (has links)
Abstract Knowledge have gradually replaced the asset to become the most important resource of the organization , people are more and more concerned about how company do the knowledge selection , creation, storage and application in the recently 20 years. There are many researches to discuss about how organization manage its knowledge creation , but there are rare essays to discuss the process of knowledge creation. Nonaka had provided knowledge spiral model to explain how organization create knowledge, he predicted organization create knowledge through the SECI process ¡Vassociation , extermination, combination ,internalization, but he has never mentioned about the process of how individual create knowledge. This article offer ¡§From individual to organization knowledge creation integration modal ¡§ which based on the viewpoint of information flow in knowledge creation process to discuss the affecting factors of knowledge creation. We analog the cognition development theory of Piaget and combined the SECI organization knowledge conversion of Nonaka to develop individual knowledge creation modal. From this modal , we predict the new thinking comes from the process which individual try to eliminate the information gap between the outside information and inside knowledge base through the dialectical process of assimilation and accommodation. When individual offer the new idea t to the other guy of the task force, it become the new outside information of the people to do the next dialectical process , and at that time the creation type will transfer from individual to organization . We consider organization knowledge creation is the information transforming process among the individuals in the group , the new knowledge is created in the dialectical process that go through antithetical concepts such as individual ¡V organization , tacit - explicit . From this integration model, we predict the affecting factors of knowledge creation which includes the selection of creator and the fitness of organization management. Finally, we try to find the fitness factors arrangement of the knowledge creation management through the resource construction model to construct the innovation ability as organization .resource , which will let the creative activity continuous running. We interview the china steel knowledge creation activities, and use the modal what we develop to explain these cases , we also try to find the common factors of these successful activities and to find the process and the source of innovation and give some suggestion to these activities. It shows china steel cases own the most part of factors which a successful innovation need , but if these innovation activities want to last forever to become organization resource , they need to transfer the firm¡¦s frame of mind from individual achievement requirement to enterprise value emphasis.

See who created these : a study of the description of Yahweh's creative activity in Isaiah 40-55

Black, Fiona January 1994 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the descriptions of Yahweh's creative activity in Deutero-Isaiah (Isaiah 40-55). In the last century, biblical scholarship on creation has been concerned primarily with its relationship to redemption. This thesis will study the descriptions independently of redemption. / The references to creation incorporate a broad spectrum of material which is presented randomly throughout Deutero-Isaiah. Because of their diversity, the references will be organized into three groups: Yahweh's initial creation (cosmogony), his creation of the people, and his new creation (his present or upcoming creative activity). Discussion will begin with the cosmogonic material, since it is the most obvious of the groups in terms of its language and similarities to other biblical material. The other aspects of Yahweh's creative activity will then be studied in accordance with their lexical relationship to the cosmogonic texts. / This thesis will investigate what is said specifically about creation, how the creation language functions (i.e., how the message/meaning is effected), and what purpose it serves (i.e., why creation is mentioned). Special attention will be paid to the lexical material in the descriptions, notably the verbs. References will be examined in their immediate context (poem, etc.) and in their Deutero-Isaian context. Where relevant, other texts in Isaiah (Isa 1-66) or the rest of the Hebrew Bible will be used in the expectation that they will provide added insight into the meaning of the references.

A study of the impact of expanded public works programme on job creation in the Zululand district municipality.

Khanyile, Bonguyise Kenneth. January 2008 (has links)
This research measures and evaluates the impact of the Expanded Public Works Programmes on job creation in the Zululand District in order to guide government in developing a policy that will assist future job creation programmes. The Provincial government has prioritized poverty reduction and job creation as key focus areas in Kwazulu - Natal. This study attempts to determine whether the Expanded Public Works Programme contributes towards job creation and economic growth. The study was limited to the area of the Zululand District Municipality. This research was quantitative in nature in order to meet the objectives of the study which relates to impacts of the Expanded Public Works Programme on job creation. Statistics will be used to justify the conclusions drawn about the percentage increase in employment creation in the area. . The sample was a representative of the population of the area under study. Efforts were made to eliminate any ambiguity in the questionnaires. As training of people on the Expanded Public Works Programme is often conducted in less than six months and as the training is often not accredited, it is concluded that the jobs created by the Expanded Public Works Programme in the Zululand District Municipality are not sustainable. A high percentage of people worked on the Expanded Public Works Programme projects. Although these jobs are not sustainable, they do contribute towards the reduction of unemployment during the construction phase of the project. Most people agree with and support the Expanded Public Works Programme as a successful programme that gives hope for job creationThe output and impact of the Expanded Public Works Programme on skills training, monthly gross household income, daily wage, sustainable jobs and reduction in unemployment is shown to be minimal or not having a very noticeable impact.. Registered institutions under the Department of Education should be used to conduct training on these projects so that the level of training received can be consistent for all people trained / Thesis (MBA)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2008.
