Abstract: To establish standard va1ues for hepatic measures, 1.232 infants and children were evaluated, including both sexes, with ages ranging from zero to 10 years old. The intra and interobservers variability for the proposed hepatic measures were studied. The variability was very sma1l, and so, the method was considerated reproducible. The following hepatic measures were used : span in the anterior axillary line, span in the midclavicular line, span in mid-line, projection of the liver edge below the costal margin in the anterior axillary line and projection of the liver edge below the costal margin in the midclavicular line. The statistical analyses showed that hepatic measures relate with age, weight and height, but not with sex. From interelations between the variables and were developed which permit to estimate both the hepatic measures formulas the highest and the lowest height and weight limits in values of the hepatic measures, according to each age group. / Doutorado / Doutor em Ciências Médicas
