No. of bitstreams: 1 2007_MariaAEPalacios.pdf: 477536 bytes, checksum: 44133a06fa70efb8e75275a7c9488c59 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007 / O meu trabalho começa com uma introdução intitulada «Rubem Fonseca e a reinvenção do gênero policial na América Latina», onde tento situar o autor dentro da evolução do gênero policial na América de fala espanhola e portuguesa e dentro do fenômeno do «neo-policial latino-americano», que se inicia nos anos 70 do século XX. A tese do trabalho é enunciada no primeiro capítulo. Em «Rubem Fonseca e o uso desviado do gênero policial», proponho uma relação lateral do escritor com o gênero. Sob meu ponto de vista, o autor não repete fielmente seus códigos, mas sim os reinventa e os incorpora ao seu estilo. Do segundo ao quarto capítulo, faço uma análise de algumas formas dessa reinvenção. Em «De Zadig a Mandrake. O detetive em Rubem Fonseca», a partir de alguns modelos famosos de detetives, estabeleço possíveis distâncias e proximidades com Mandrake, o detetive emblemático do autor. Em «Mistério e investigação», estudo como esses dois elementos, cuja aparição conjunta define o gênero policial segundo o escritor Pierre Boileau, se apresentam na narrativa de Fonseca. Em «‘Feliz ano novo’ e a crook story», estudo o vínculo de um dos contos mais conhecidos do escritor com uma variante do romance noir que trata a perspectiva do criminoso na cidade moderna. ____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This thesis opens with the introduction «Rubem Fonseca. The reinvention of the detective genre in Latin America» , which attempts to place the author within the evolution of the detective genre in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Americas. More specifically, I examine Fonseca's work in the context of the success of the socalled 'Latin American Neo-Detective Novel' of the 1970s. The first chapter introduces the argument of this thesis. In «Rubem Fonseca and the deviation from the detective genre», I argue that Fonseca's work develops an oblique relation with this genre. In my view, Fonseca does not adhere faithfully to the codes of the detective genre but rather he reinvents them, assimilating them to his own style. In chapters two to four, I analyse the forms adopted in this reinvention. In «From Zadig to Mandrake. The Detective in Rubem Fonseca», I look at several celebrated detective figures in literature in order to compare and contrast them with Mandrake, Fonseca's emblematic detective. In «Mystery and Investigation» I examine the ways in which these two elements ―which, according to Pierre Boileau, jointly define the detective genre― are deployed in Fonseca's works. «‘Happy New Year’ and the Crook Story'» focuses on the ways in which one of the author's best-known short stories relates to the sub-genre of the noir narrative that adopts the criminal's point of view in the modern city.
