The aim of my thesis is to analyse social and economic situation in Bohemia considering nationalism as a basic political idea of both Czech liberal political parties, and so to map a change in the leading positions in Czech liberal politics. This analysis also enables to appraise the goals of Young Czechs and Old Czechs who were the only representatives of Czech nation with regard to efforts of German liberal politics in Bohemia.

The Czechs and Germans have been neighbours in the Central Europe since centuries. Due to the course of history, some discrepancies might be still present in the mutual Czech-German relations. To solve these historical issues, a "Czech-German declaration" was signed in 1997. The main task of this thesis is to analyse the Czech-German relations after the signature of the declaration. The German point of view is stressed while dealing with the topic. The first chapter explains the development of the Czech-German relations since founding of the Czechoslovakia in 1918 until the signature of the Czech-German declaration. The second chapter deals with the declaration itself. The third chapter refers to the detailed analysis of the Czech-German relations on both -- the bilateral and multilateral levels. On bilateral level, the political, business, cultural relations and other forms of mutual cooperation are being discussed. The cooperation between Czech Republic and Germany in the international organisations, specifically the European Union and NATO, is the main subject of the multilateral dimension of the Czech-German relations that this paper deals with.

TITLE: Sudeten-German Nationalist Sports Associations and Czech State in the years 1918-1938 ABSTRACT: This dissertation deals with activities of Sudeten-German sports associations which had an negative approach towards the state. Their activities regularly provoked reactions from the state authorities and so it is possible to track down a whole genesis of mutual relations between the Czech state and individual associations in the archives. Among the most important sports associations was DTV Union. This union played an important part in the history of interwar Czechoslovakia, not only in the field of sport but also in the political sphere. Many top leaders of Sudeten-German political representation came from its ranks. Among the most famous Konrad Henlein, Karl Hermann Frank, Walter Brand and many others. Apart from DTV Union this dissertation also describes the most militant Sudeten-German sports association Volksport, which in that time became a synonym for the threat of rising Nacizm. The thesis defines the term of public diplomacy and describes it by its main actors and dimensions. The second chapter is focused on the concrete concept of public diplomacy in the Czech Republic and Germany. Attention is paid to most important documents and the main actors. Chapter three deals about the actions of public diplomacy in the Czech-German relations.

The aim of this MA dissertation is to focus on the language isolate of Jihlava mostly in the 20th century. In particular, on the events regarding the situation during the First Republic, when the tension between the Czech and German speaking citizens started to increase. The first part will be dedicated to a territorial and administrative division in order to establish grounds upon which the discussed events will be clarified and described in terms of ethnic and territorial situation. To resume the topic of my BA thesis and to accentuate the facts and results with regard to geographical demarcation, I would like to focus on the presidial writings from which I have already drawn in said thesis. I will attempt to reconstruct all the sources, except for the letters taken from archives which I have already used in my BA thesis. Emphasis will be put on the policy situation and then reports of the security authorities which were monitoring the difficult situation in the language isolate of Jihlava and which were reporting all the relevant information.

This thesis titled "Media transformation in the Broumov region between 1945 and 1949" looks at the development of print media after World War II in the Broumov region. To help paint a clearer picture of the topic, the first part maps out the situation of the media before 1945. The population of the area was demographically mixed and Germans were a clear majority. It was consequently difficult for the Czech minority to influence public life and altogether impossible for the Czech press to publish. The thesis aims to capture the transformation of German media production towards a Czech one. To explain wider circumstances of the time period, the second part outlines the socio - political situation in Czechoslovakia in the years following World War II. This part also briefly describes how print media was run and administered by the government between 1945 and 1949. The third part examines in more detail the situation in the Broumov region after World War II. It describes such events as the expulsion of Germans, the settling of a new population, the confiscation of German property and the process of creating a new citizen society. Jan Palacký (1830-1908) was the first associate professor of geography at the Prague University and, after university division, the first professor of geography at the Czech Charles- Ferdinand University. He worked as a scientist for more than fifty years. He was well known abroad and represented the Czech Kingdom in a perfect way. His family was one of the most important families of Czech history. Jan Palacký was not as successful a politician - as his father František Palacký or his brother-in-law František Ladislav Rieger. He could not keep the family property which he lost as a result of the failed Chabrus elections in 1872. The aim of this thesis is to map the life of Jan Palacký in his life roles through this new perspective and using unused sources to point out Palacký's personal national identity. The focus of the thesis is the analysis of sources relating to Jan Palacký. The thesis is focused on Palacký family life, his scientific work and activities at the university, educational and charitable activities. The thesis focuses on the beginnings and historical development of elementary education in the village of Šindlovy Dvory between 1919 and 1950. It summarizes and analyzes available regional sources. The first chapter deals with the history of connected municipalities from 1259 to 1950. The following chapters are devoted to the emergence of a Czech school, the lesson planning, students´statistics, changes in the teaching staff, extracurricular activities, numerous celebrations, important events, collections and use of the school building. The thesis also examincs the influence of historical events and political changes on education.

This thesis focuses on specific business personality of the nineteenth century - Richard Dotzauer. It charts his work in the field of business, but so is devoted to his public activities in the federal and political life. As part of the work is monitored also the issue of entrepreneurial mentality and lifestyle. As part of this work is to form a wider excursion pointed to other significant business personality of study epoch. Richard Dotzauer represents a type of German businessmen. In the case of Andreas Haase terms of personality that goes nationally difficult to define. Jindřich Fügner is nationally representative of the Czech entrepreneurship. The work studies the personalities mentioned in the context of important processes of the nineteenth century, such as the industrialization, the formation of the national movement and the emergence of modern civil society.
