在行列設計(row-column design)的架構下,當行總和與列總和皆為總試驗處理數的倍數時,我們考慮行效果與列效果的相互比較之最適性。延續Shah和Sinha(1993)的結果,在給定行總和及列總和的情況下,我們導出達成齊一最適設計(uniformly optimal design)的充分條件。此外,當總實驗單位固定時,達成全域最適設計(universally optimal design)的充分條件亦被求出。我們同時列舉許多相關的設計排列法。 / We consider the problem of comparing row effects and column effects in the row-column design setup when the row sizes and column sizes are all multiples of the number of treatments. Following the work of Shah and Sinha (1993), we derive a sufficient condition for uniformly optimal designs for given values of the row sizes and column sizes. We also derive a sufficient condition for universally optimal designs when the total number of experimental units is fixed. Several examples of designs with high efficiencies are provided.

Understanding and Estimating the Value Travelers Place on Their Trips on Managed Lanes

Travelers' value of travel time savings (VTTS) are often used to estimate the benefits of transportation facilities, including managed lanes (MLs). With various eligibility criteria and time of day pricing on the MLs, the VTTS estimation is complicated. This is evident by the underestimation of VTTS on MLs in many of the previous studies. This study investigates stated preference (SP) survey design strategies and differentiating the VTTS for ordinary and some common urgent situations faced by the travelers in an attempt to improve on VTTS estimation on MLs. This study used three different survey design strategies (including a D-efficient design) in an internet based survey of Katy Freeway travelers. It was found that a random attribute level generation strategy, where the VTTS presented in the alternative was adjusted based on the answer to a previous SP question, performs better than the other two designs with respect to VTTS estimation and other survey design efficiency criteria. The analysis to differentiate the VTTS for ordinary and urgent trips was carried out using the state of art in the mixed logit model estimation. It was found that travelers value their travel time savings much more when facing most of these urgent situations rather than ordinary situations. Both peak and off-peak period travelers' VTTS were also found to be significantly greater when on urgent trips. Survey design attribute level ranges were found to significantly affect the VTTS estimation. Further, in order to understand the policy implications of these findings it was demonstrated that classifying all trips as ordinary can significantly underestimate the VTTS benefits offered by the MLs. Additionally, the VTTS of any urgent trips would be greatly underestimated. The study also demonstrated that many of the low and medium income group travelers on urgent trips can have VTTS greater than that of the highest VTTS traveler from the high income group on an ordinary trip. These findings have significant policy implications since the benefits of MLs (and of most transportation investments) are primarily derived from travel time savings. Underestimating the VTTS and hence the benefits for MLs can result in reducing the likelihood of funding such facilities. This study provides an important first step in the proper estimation of these benefits by suggesting modifications to SP surveys to better capture the influence of urgent trips on the value of a ML facility.

Model robust designs for binary response experiments

The binary response experiments are often used in many areas. In many investigations, different kinds of optimal designs are discussed under an assumed model. There are also some discussions on optimal designs for discriminating models. The main goal in this work is to find an optimal design with two support points which minimizes the maximal probability differences between possible models from two types of symmetric location and scale families. It is called the minimum bias two-points design, or the $mB_2$ design in short here. D- and A-efficiencies of the $mB_2$ design obtained here are evaluated under an assumed model. Furthermore, when the assumed model is incorrect, the biases and the mean square errors in evaluating the true probabilities are computed and compared with that by using the D- and A-optimal designs for the incorrectly assumed model.

In the next section of text are analyzed available integrated circuits of power amplifiers in class D which are manufactured by world producers. The last part describes design of all parts of amplifier in class D with discrete components and also of power supplies. According to the plans, the individual parts are made. All parts are tested by measurements and results are evaluated.

考量專利品質下之台灣IC設計產業研發效率分析 / R&D Efficiency Analysis of IC Design Industry in Taiwan with Patent Quality Consideration

本研究旨在探討民國88年至94年台灣IC設計產業之研發效率分析。採兩階段資料包絡分析法(Data Envelopment Analysis, DEA):第一階段以保證區域資料包絡分析法(Assurance Region DEA,AR/DEA)衡量績效,以避免傳統DEA方法可能出現產出或投入的乘數為0之狀況。第二階段採資料切齊的(censored) TOBIT迴歸模型探討影響研發效率值的效率因子。 研究發現: (1)只考量專利數量與納入專利品質考量下之統計檢定結果,雖沒有顯著的差 異,但對少數的廠商的研發效率值與排名確實有變動,納入專利品質考 量,可以掌握更多研究發展資訊,了解廠商專利真正的價值。 (2)專利被引證次數與研發效率值呈現顯著正相關。 (3)TOBIT迴歸實證結果顯示: 研發效率與公司規模無顯著關係;研發效率與研發人力密集度無顯著相 關;研發效率與研究發展費用率呈負向關係;研發人員年約收入對研發技 術效率無顯著影響;外來知識流量占自有知識存量比例會正向影響研發效 率表現。 / This study investigates R&D efficiency analysis of IC design industry in Taiwan from 1999 to 2005 by using the two-stage Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). To avoid the situations that the multiplier of the input or output might be zero, we adapt the method of Assurance Region DEA (AR/DEA) to measure achievements in the first stage. We then use censored TOBIT regression model to study the factors that influence the efficiency value in the second stage. Through our study, we conclude that: (1) Although there is no significant difference in the results of statistical test whether we take patent quantity into account or not, both the value of R&D efficiency and ranking of a few firms do change. We can grasp more information of research and development and understand the true value of firm’s patent as we put patent quality into account. (2) The correlation coefficient between the amount of patent cited and the value of R&D efficiency is positive significantly. (3) The empirical results of TOBIT regression show that: a. There is no significant relationship between the R&D efficiency and the company’s scale. b. There is no significant relationship between the R&D efficiency and the density of R&D workers. c. There is a negative relationship between the R&D efficiency and the ratio of R&D expense. d. The yearly revenue of R&D workers does not significantly influence the R&D and technology efficiency. e. The ratio between the flow rate of external knowledge and the owned knowledge storage affects positively on R&D efficiency.

An Arcsin Limit Theorem of Minimally-Supported D-Optimal Designs for Weighted Polynomial Regression

Consider the minimally-supported D-optimal designs for dth degree polynomial regression with bounded and positive weight function on a compact interval. We show that the optimal design converges weakly to the arcsin distribution as d goes to infinity. Comparisons of the optimal design with the arcsin distribution and D-optimal arcsin support design by D-efficiencies are also given. We also show that if the design interval is [−1, 1], then the minimally-supported D-optimal design converges to the D-optimal arcsin support design with the specific weight function 1/¡Ô(£\-x^2), £\>1, as £\¡÷1+.

An Arcsin Limit Theorem of D-Optimal Designs for Weighted Polynomial Regression

Consider the D-optimal designs for the dth-degree polynomial regression model with a bounded and positive weight function on a compact interval. As the degree of the model goes to infinity, we show that the D-optimal design converges weakly to the arcsin distribution. If the weight function is equal to 1, we derive the formulae of the values of the D-criterion for five classes of designs including (i) uniform density design; (ii) arcsin density design; (iii) J_{1/2,1/2} density design; (iv) arcsin support design and (v) uniform support design. The comparison of D-efficiencies among these designs are investigated; besides, the asymptotic expansions and limits of their D-efficiencies are also given. It shows that the D-efficiency of the arcsin support design is the highest among the first four designs.
