[pt] ESTUDOS DE SENSIBILIDADE PARA VIOLAÇÃO DE CARGA-PARIDADE NOS DECAIMENTOS D+ -> K-K+Π+ E D+ -> Π-Π+Π+ NO EXPERIMENTO LHCB / [en] SENSITIVITY STUDIES FOR CHARGE-PARITY VIOLATION IN THE DECAYS D+ -> K-K+Π+ AND D+ -> Π-Π+Π+ IN THE LHCB EXPERIMENT

LUCAS NICHOLAS FALCAO FERREIRA 11 January 2022 (has links)
[en] In the last decade, since the beginning of the operation of the LHC, the Standard Model of particle physics has been tested with unprecedented precision, with enormous success. One of its experiment is LHCb, dedicated to the physics of hadrons containing the beauty and charm quarks. One of the important research topics of the LHCb is the study of the effects of particle-antiparticle asymmetry in decay processes, due to the so-called charge-parity violation (CP). CP violation is predicted by the Standard Model and, in decays involving the charm quark, it can occur in certain processes called Cabibbo-suppressed. However, this effect is very small, of the order of 0.1 percent. This smallness makes the environment of charm decays attractive to search for physics beyond the Standard Model. The aim of this work is the study of sensitivity for CP violation in the channels D+ -> K-K+π+ and D+ -> π-π+π+ in run II of the LHCb. Through the phase space of these decays, called Dalitz Plot, and the use of the Mirandizing method, which is based on looking for local significance in the difference in the distribution of events for particle and antiparticle Dalitz Plots, one can seek for local asymmetries that would indicate effects of CP violation in these decays. Based on the data statistics taken between 2016 and 2018 at the LHCb, pseudo experiments were performed, using the Monte Carlo method, aiming to reproduce the dynamics of real data, and inserting small effects of CP violation. We found that there is sensitivity for CP violation with effects of the order of 10−3 in some situations, which is the expected level predicted by the Standard Model, indicating a possibility for observing CP violation in the real data from run II.

Determination of the CKM phase γ at LHCb using the decay mode B± to DK± and a study of the decays D0 to KS0K±π∓ using data from the CLEO experiment

Johnson, D. January 2013 (has links)
This thesis documents studies of CP violation in B± to [KS0h⁺h⁻]DK±, (h = π/K) decays using data taken by the LHCb experiment during 2011, and the first measurement of γ to be made at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), γ = (45+43-38) degrees. Also included is a study of D0 to KS0K∓π± decays using CLEO III and CLEO-c data, resulting in the first amplitude models to be published for these decays and a measurement of the ratio of their branching fractions.

An amplitude analysis of the four body decay D^0 to K^+K^-pi^+pi^- and a study on the pi^+pi^- S wave for the decay D^0 to KS0pi^+pi^-

Martin, Lauren January 2011 (has links)
The angle γ, with an uncertainty of approximately 10° is the least well constrained angle of the unitary triangle. Better experimental constraints on this parameter are required in order to provide a consistency check on the standard model description of CP violation. A promising strategy for measuring γ involves exploiting interference effects present in B± → DK± decays where the D subsequently decays to a three or four body final state. The three body decay D → KS 0p+p- and the four body decay D0 → K+K-p+p- are suitable candidates for making such a measurement. However independent knowledge of the decay structure of these decays is required. The impact of the model, used to describe the p+p- S wave, in the D0 → K+K-p+p- decay, on the uncertainty in the measurement of γ is estimated via a simulation study. It is determined that the uncertainty on a gamma measurement would be compromised by this model uncertainty within one year of LHCb data running. The four body decay D0 → K+K-p+p- also provides a candidate for making a γ measurement. This decay is expected to display a rich resonant structure. An understanding of this decay may also provide an insight into low energy QCD in addition to allowing a search for CP violation. Only one previous amplitude analysis has been performed on this decay. Using data collected at the CLEO-II.V, CLEO-III and CLEO-c experiments an amplitude model is developed for the D0 → K+K-p+p- decay. This model is qualitatively similar to that produced in the previous analysis although the model presented in this thesis considers higher orbital angular momentum states and distinguishes between conjugate states that the previous model did not. A search for CP violation is also carried out using the D0 → K+K-p+p- decay data. A positive confirmation of CP violation at the level of sensitivity provided by this decay data would provide evidence for a level of CP violation which could not be accounted for within the standard model. No significant evidence for CP violation is observed in this decay. A toy MC study was carried out in order to determine the sensitivity to γ which may be achieved using this decay. In this study, sets of 1000 B+ and B- events are generated and the decay model developed for the D → K+K-p+p- decay is used to describe the D decay. The sensitivity to γ determined in this study is 11°.

Moriniere, Emilie 28 March 2008 (has links) (PDF)

Dalitz Plot Analysis of η'→ηπ+π-

Taylor, Simon January 2020 (has links)
Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) is a tool for studying the strong interaction at low energies. The Perturbation theory is developed around the limit where the light quarks, u,d,s are approximated to be massless. In this approximation the isospin symmetry, one of the main features of the strong interaction, is fulfilled automatically. The study of the light quark masses and isospin violation can be done with the η'→πππ and η'→ηππ decay channels by analyzing the kinematic distribution using so-called Dalitz plots. A Dalitz plot analysis of the η'→ηπ+π- decay mode is conducted by the BESIII collaboration. The unbinned maximum likelihood method is used to fit the parameters that describe the Dalitz plot distribution. In this fit a polynomial expansion of the matrix element squared is used. However, in order to study light quark masses, it is better to use a parameterization which includes the description of the final-state interaction based on a dispersion relation. Hence, it is desirable to use a representation of the Dalitz plot as a two-dimensional histogram with acceptance corrected data as input to extract the substraction constants. Therefore, the goal of this thesis is to make a consistency check between the unbinned and binned representation of the data. In this thesis Monte Carlo data of η'→ηπ+π- decay channel is generated based on the BESIII. An unbinned maximum likelihood fit is performed to find the Dalitz plot parameters repeating the BESIII analysis method. The Monte Carlo data is then used for a binned maximum likelihood and a χ2 fit. Finally, the prepared binned experimental acceptance corrected data from BESIII is used to fit the Dalitz plot parameters using the same statistical methods. The results based on the binned maximum likelihood and the χ2 methods are consistent with the fit using the unbinned maximum likelihood method applied in the original BESIII publication.

Rey-Le Lorier, Nicolas 08 1900 (has links)
This Master’s thesis presents the application of the method of decomposition in terms of diagrams to the charmless decays of B mesons to three pseudoscalar particles. We systematically apply the diagrammatic method to the decays B → Kππ, B → KKK ̄, B → KK ̄π and B → πππ. It is shown that when we neglect exchange and annihilation diagrams, whose contributions have been estimated to be small, new relations appear between the decay amplitudes. These relations constitute new tests of the standard model that can only be obtained through the diagrammatic method. When the necessary data is available, we verify these relations and obtain a good agreement with the experimental results. We also show that it is possible use observables in the B → Kππ sector to measure the weak phase γ with a theoretical uncertainty of the order of 5%. Other decay sectors can only allow the extraction of weak phases through the use of approximations of unknown precision.
