Využití systémového katalogu pro správu databází / Application of system catalogue for database management

Nečas, Jaroslav January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this project is to create a design and subsequently the web application for a database management which uses the system catalogue of the Microsoft SQL database system. The introduction deals with the principle of the relational databases and includes the list of the most widespread database systems. The next chapter of the theoretical part describes the syntax of the SQL query language, and the next chapter deals with the properties of the system catalogue which were utilized. Finally, the last of the theoretical chapters is centred on the .NET platform and its technologies – particularly the ASP.NET and the ADO.NET technologies. The former is used for creating dynamical web pages, and the latter is an object library used for the data access. The practical part of this work comprises the web application scheme on which is the final web application based. The most emphasized issues in this part are the security and the supposed program design of the web application. The final part of the work contains a description of the finished web application, especially the configuration and the functions which the application provides to a user. And finally, the whole project is briefly evaluated in the conclusion.

Analytical Query Processing Using Heterogeneous SIMD Instruction Sets

Ungethüm, Annett 30 October 2020 (has links)
Numerous applications gather increasing amounts of data, which have to be managed and queried. Different hardware developments help to meet this challenge. The grow-ing capacity of main memory enables database systems to keep all their data in memory. Additionally, the hardware landscape is becoming more diverse. A plethora of homo-geneous and heterogeneous co-processors is available, where heterogeneity refers not only to a different computing power, but also to different instruction set architectures. For instance, modern Intel® CPUs offer different instruction sets supporting the Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) paradigm, e.g. SSE, AVX, and AVX512. Database systems have started to exploit SIMD to increase performance. However, this is still a challenging task, because existing algorithms were mainly developed for scalar processing and because there is a huge variety of different instruction sets, which were never standardized and have no unified interface. This requires to completely rewrite the source code for porting a system to another hardware architecture, even if those archi-tectures are not fundamentally different and designed by the same company. Moreover, operations on large registers, which are the core principle of SIMD processing, behave counter-intuitively in several cases. This is especially true for analytical query process-ing, where different memory access patterns and data dependencies caused by the com-pression of data, challenge the limits of the SIMD principle. Finally, there are physical constraints to the use of such instructions affecting the CPU frequency scaling, which is further influenced by the use of multiple cores. This is because the supply power of a CPU is limited, such that not all transistors can be powered at the same time. Hence, there is a complex relationship between performance and power, and therefore also between performance and energy consumption. This thesis addresses the specific challenges, which are introduced by the application of SIMD in general, and the heterogeneity of SIMD ISAs in particular. Hence, the goal of this thesis is to exploit the potential of heterogeneous SIMD ISAs for increasing the performance as well as the energy-efficiency.

The constant technical and scientific advances, in various areas of engineering, have led to changes in the many methods of everyday approach and played a fundamental role in attracting new users, with or without specific knowledge, to the use of these new techniques. The creation of data structure for geographic applications allowed the development of new computational tools that, as the Geographic Information Systems, helped the development related to the research processes with geographic data. However, for a correct use of these new tools, spatial databases must be developed in a structured way, following well-developed standards and techniques. An effort that, for many times, does not occur on the part of the end users that end up compromising all the efficiency of the computational system. This work present: The benefits involved in the use of standards and techniques for developing efficient software; showing the international institutions responsible for establishing the base rules and the necessary efforts for the development with quality of an application that uses spatial databases.

Growth in Environmental Footprints and Environmental Impacts Embodied in Trade: Resource Efficiency Indicators from EXIOBASE3

Wood, Richard, Stadler, Konstantin, Simas, Moana, Bulavskaya, Tatyana, Giljum, Stefan, Lutter, Franz Stephan, Tukker, Arnold January 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Most countries show a relative decoupling of economic growth from domestic resource use, implying increased resource efficiency. However, international trade facilitates the exchange of products between regions with disparate resource productivity. Hence, for an understanding of resource efficiency from a consumption perspective that takes into account the impacts in the upstream supply chains, there is a need to assess the environmental pressures embodied in trade. We use EXIOBASE3, a new multiregional input-output database, to examine the rate of increase in resource efficiency, and investigate the ways in which international trade contributes to the displacement of pressures on the environment from the consumption of a population. We look at the environmental pressures of energy use, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, material use, water use, and land use. Material use stands out as the only indicator growing in both absolute and relative terms to population and gross domestic product (GDP), while land use is the only indicator showing absolute decoupling from both references. Energy, GHG, and water use show relative decoupling. As a percentage of total global environmental pressure, we calculate the net impact displaced through trade rising from 23% to 32% for material use (1995¿2011), 23% to 26% for water use, 20% to 29% for energy use, 20% to 26% for land use, and 19% to 24% for GHG emissions. The results show a substantial disparity between trade-related impacts for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and non-OECD countries. At the product group level, we observe the most rapid growth in environmental footprints in clothing and footwear. The analysis points to implications for future policies aiming to achieve environmental targets, while fully considering potential displacement effects through international trade.
