L’anglais en France est une langue qui présente différentes facettes. La recherche, centrée sur cette diversité, s’est effectuée à partir d’ observations conduites à un niveau macro-sociolinguistique, articulées à une étude menée à un niveau micro-sociolinguistique. Contextualisé par des références à l’histoire franco-anglaise mais aussi – franco-américaine –, ce travail interroge les conséquences sociolinguistiques de la relation qu’entretiennent la France et l’Angleterre. Les principales interrogations portent sur les conséquences sociolinguistiques et didactiques d’une telle situation : dans un contexte où l’anglais apparaît comme une langue multiple, comment s’organise un enseignement universitaire de l’anglais ? Cette étude présente les résultats obtenus grâce à des enquêtes menées auprès d’étudiants spécialistes en anglais et des étudiants non-spécialistes. La question des liens unissant pratiques et représentations est ici réévaluée en rapport avec l’aspect identitaire. / English in France is a language that presents several different facets. My research, centred around this diversity, is constructed from observations conducted on a macro-sociolinguistic level, articulated to a study taken to a micro-sociolinguistic level. Contextualized by references to historic Franco-English – but also Franco-American – contexts, this work questions the sociolinguistic consequences of this historically close relationship. The principal questions in this study are brought to bear on the sociolinguistic and didactic consequences of a linguistic situation such as this: in a context in which English appears as a multiple language, how should the teaching of English at the university level be organized? This study presents results obtained via questionnaires and surveys conducted with students specializing in English and non-specialists. The question of ties uniting practices and representations re-evaluated in the light of the identity.
