It is studied a problem of plane stresses, that is, the one of small thickness polygon form plates with loading in its own plane. Initially, the essential formulas to resolve the problem are set up through finite differences in triangular coordinates and skew coordinates comparing the results got with the ones obtained by the Finite Element Method using the MEFI-1 program. As particular cases of the theory application, some polygon shape plates with loading uniformily distributed through the superior and inferior edges are studied. In order to give a solution to the question it was developed a self-acting program which allows an analysis of plane stresses small thickness plates or slabs, valid for the Cartesian, skew or triangular systems. This program is outlined in some detail, and to help its understanding it was inserted a simplified flowchart in the appendix.
