Success Through Disruptive Innovation? The Impact of Disruptive Innovation on Publicly Traded Technology Firms

Lemmon, Taylor 01 January 2016 (has links)
In recent years the concept of disruptive innovation has become central to business and innovation. A disruptive innovation can be defined as a product, service, technology, or business model that enters the market as either a low-end entrant, while simultaneously bringing some new attribute to the market; or as a new market disruptor that creates a distinct foothold in a previously undiscovered market. Much of the previous research into disruptive innovation has been through case study frameworks, and by selection of specific firms that fit the model. The question is, does the model have merits beyond expounding on past successes and failures across industries, and can it forecast successful disruptors? In this paper I analyze all Technology Sector firms that have entered the public markets between Jan 2002 - Dec 2013. I attempt to determine if a disruptive strategy leads to high growth performance for firms over a twelve quarter period. I also seek to find out if disruptive firms are market leading companies, in terms of having a high market capitalization. I find that a firm being a disruptor has a significant correlation to the growth factor across firms. I also find significance between a firm being a disruptor and holding a max market cap position above the 90th percentile in the sample. In a similar regression for the 80th percentile of firms, I do not find any significant correlation.

An Exploration And Comparison Of Indicators Of Marital Sexuality As Predictors Of Marital Disruption

Dzara, Kristina 01 January 2009 (has links)
Little is known about how marital sexual interaction influences eventual marital disruption, despite research in various disciplines examining the sex lives of the married. This relatively unexplored area compels sociological inquiry, since most Americans will marry, yet about 44 percent of all marriages are expected to end in divorce. Surprisingly, no one has posed the question: Does frequent, satisfying, and agreeable marital sexual interaction help to sustain a marriage? Further, do these indicators work separately or together to influence marital disruption? With panel data from the Marriage Matters Panel Survey of Newlywed Couples, 1998 - 2004, I utilize these three indicators (frequency, satisfaction, and agreement) to assess this question, as well as how the indicators of marital sexuality influence each other. The results provide evidence that the influence of marital sexuality on marital disruption is limited. However, interesting gender nuances appear and indicate that husband's satisfaction with physical intimacy early in marriage has a consistent positive effect on whether or not the couple will experience a marital disruption.

Kemikalier på förskolor : En studie om hormonstörande ämnen och medvetenheten hos förskolepersonal

Huuva, Catrin January 2013 (has links)
Chemicals in preschools - a study of endocrine disrupting chemicals and awareness among preschool teachers The purpose of this study was to investigate endocrine disrupting chemicals that have been shown in preschools and also the preschool teachers’ awareness of these chemicals. There were two methods used for completing this study; a literature study and a practical study. The literature study was made by researching on the internet and in books. The practical study was performed by sending questionnaires to all preschools in Kiruna municipality to study awareness among staff. The result shows that there are many different chemicals in preschools and that they were found in beds, floor, toys, food packaging etc. The result also shows that the preschool teachers were somewhat aware of chemicals hidden in products and interior, but needed more knowledge to do something. The response rate of the survey was 89 percent. 25 of 28 preschools participated in the survey. Children were exposed to chemicals from air, dust, food, etc. The chemicals might affect children through a variety of diseases; reproductive problems, diabetes, cancer, allergies, asthma, etc. We need more laws and restrictions to overcome the chemical problem. To solve the problem, knowledge must be given to both preschool staff and parents. Information must be easily accessible. Communities need to be more conscious of chemicals in the preschools and also in the rest of the children's everyday lives.
