That justified the increase of researches around sit-to-stand movements nowadays.This thesis presents the design of a four links wearable device that can assist disable people to stand from a sitting position. The four links are joined at the ankle, the knee and the HAT (Head, Arm and Trunk) where actuators are mounted. The system is built around three controllers. The Goal Controller drives the links along their reference trajectories, the Stability Controller makes sure that the system does not collapse as it is rising, and the last controller combines the signal from the 2 first ones.The reference trajectories are obtained from data recorded from healthy people performing the movement. The main idea behind the present design is that from seat off, the floor projection of the body centre of pressure is evaluated and compared to the most stable position. The stability controller generates the torque necessary to compensate the deviation, while the third controller adjusts the level of participation of that torque to satisfy both the trajectory and the stability objectives. Similar idea was previously found in Prinz (2010).

The first step involves the design of the specific zeolite system (ZSM-5) and the set-up of an autoclave reactor for the hydrothermal synthesis of this and other zeolites and nano materials, then the oxidation catalyst (TS-1) development, i.e. the substitution of aluminium with titanium in the zeolite framework, and finally the formulation and preparation of the isomorphous Silicalite zeolite by omitting the aluminium in the synthesis. And further, set-up of suitable equipments and apparatus for the catalytic testing of the Titanium Silicalite-1 in the oxidation reaction of phenol as the test reaction. Therefore, the overall objectives of this research are: set up an autoclave reactor for the hydrothermal synthesis, formulation of a synthesis recipe for MFI family of catalysts in the laboratory, synthesis of ZSM-5, Silicalite-1, and TS-1 zeolites catalysts in the laboratory, characterization and optimization of the of catalysts listed above, testing the Ti-Silicalite catalyst in the oxidation reaction of phenol with hydrogen peroxide, as the oxidant, set up analytical system (Gas Chromatography, ASS) for analysis of catalyst performance in the oxidation reaction, Evaluate the conversion of the reaction and the selectivity of the individual catalysts reaction Evaluate the conversion of the reaction and the selectivity of the individual catalysts reaction and verify results obtained and compare with systems described in the literature.

Evaluation of inorganic corrosion inhibition of mild steel and Aluminium alloy in acidic environment.Sanni, Omotayo. January 2013 (has links)

Chemical Engineering. / Discusses the effect of ferrous gluconate (FG) and zinc gluconate (ZG) as novel corrosion inhibitors on the corrosion rate of mild steel and aluminium alloy in 3.5% NaCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 media was investigated by electrochemical and weight loss techniques. The effect of inhibitor concentration was investigated. The concentration of these inhibitor ranges from 0.5 to 2.0% g/v at a temperature of 28OC. The synergetic effect of these inhibitors was also studied. High resolution scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (HR-SEM/EDS) and Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize the surface morphology of the metals before and after corrosion. Experimental results revealed that ferrous gluconate and zinc gluconate in 3.5% NaCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 solution decreased the corrosion rate at the different concentrations studied. Maximum inhibition efficiency of 100% was achieved for mild steel at 0.5% g/v concentration of FG, 0.5% g/v concentration of ZG and 1.5% g/v synergetic of FG + ZG in 3.5% NaCl solution. Similarly, 100% inhibition efficiency was obtained for aluminium alloy at different media studied (3.5% NaCl and 0.5 M H2SO4). The experimental results obtained from potentiodynamic polarization method showed that the presence of FG and ZG in 3.5% NaCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions decreases the corrosion current densities (icorr) and corrosion rates (CR), and increases the polarization resistance (Rp). It was observed that the inhibitor efficiency depends on the corrosive media, concentration of the inhibitor and the substrate material. The adsorption characteristics of FG and ZG were best described by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Good correlation exists between the results obtained from both polarization and weight loss methods.
