Videoconferencing pathways to interaction

Goldberg, Lydia January 1994 (has links)
The rapid convergence of technologies of communication into a multimedia environment taking place over the last decade has created a new interest in the possibilities offered by videoconferencing systems. We are thus beginning to see the expansion of the potential for various levels of human interaction mediated by video in both business and educational domains. Through the support of the technologically mediated environment, people now have the capability to travel across time and space, meeting with other individuals, seemingly as if face-to-face. The purpose of this thesis is to explore more fully some of the issues of the new communication technologies (differences between face-to-face and mediated communication, changes to our conceptions of time and space, and problems of privacy and surveillance) and specifically how they apply to various videoconferencing scenarios as well as to a more detailed case study of a teleteaching experiment conducted recently at a French research institute.

Ledarskap på distans inom personlig assistans : Att leda en verksamhet på distans

Christian, Nilsson, Merim, Tatarevic January 2014 (has links)
This work aims to show how unitmanagers , within personal assistance , experience leadership at a distance. We found this interesting as leaders in personal assistance do not have a natural and close collaboration with their staff in place. This study is based on theories of empowerment, motivation and communication, together with our empirical material that we have gathered through interviews with the head of units of personal assistance. The work we have done shows that leaders remotely put a lot of emphasis on being able to communicate effectively with their employees. By effectively communicate with employees managers can delegate responsibility and get quick feedback from their staff. Our studies have shown that managers think it is important that employees are aware of how the business works and how to give employees the tools to develop themselves and the business. Due to lack of meetings between leaders and staff our conclusion is that managers are working to motivate their staff, in order to make them feel seen. That leads to reducing the stress out of staff.
