Procura identificar de que modo o dom do rim influiu no seu cotidiano e sua visão de mundo, e analisa os motivos que impulsionaram a doação. Na pesquisa, é dada ênfase á investigação das imagens mais representativas que compõem seu universo simbólico. Foi realizada uma etnografia, e esta foi submetida a dois tipos de interpretação; uma análise compreensiva dos dados etnográficos, e uma análise simbólica dos discursos. Na primeira estratégia metodológica, a realidade objetiva tornou-se evidenciada e foi então submetida a um tratamento analítico que possibilitou interpretar algumas correlações entre o doador e suas categorias sociais, suas relações familiares, e suas relações com o receptor. Na segunda, foi detectado como as imagens se organizam em tomo da dádiva, e o imaginário simbólico pesquisado permitiu vislumbrar de que maneira ele é utilizado para manter os ajustes biopsicossociais, que conferem um equilíbrio dinâmico ao doador. A metodologia empregada permitiu revelar tendências indicativas de que coexistem vários impulsos motivadores, que somados elaboram a força motriz do dom. Em suma, sustenta-se, aqui, que através do discurso do doador renal (linear ou simbolicamente interpretado), é possível sugerir que as razões que levam ao dom extrapolam as explicitamente representadas e valorizadas pelo senso comum. A análise apresentada, neste trabalho, está baseada numa pesquisa realizada entre doadores renais e técnicos relacionados com o transplante no Recife, entre os anos de 1993 e 1994. / The present Dissertation pursuits to study the kidney's donor as an individual contextualized in his society and the different ways he represents it seeking for a relation linked to his biography. It's also an attempt to identify how kidney donation has affected the donors' life and also his world's view as well as to analyse the reasons which had headed him for the donation. In the current research some emphasis was given to the investigation of the most representative images which compose the doner's symbolic universe. This study is based on a research which was carried out among kidney doners and technicians involved with kidney transplanta in Recife along 1993 and 1994, respectively. As a point of departure, ethnography was taken and then submitted to two different kinds of interpretation - a comprehensive annalisys of ethnological data and a symbolic annalisys of the donner's discourse: - the first methodological strategy lies on an objective reality depicted by the doner's discourse. Therefore it was submitted to a mythocritic approach which enabled the researcher to interpret subjective realities such as the correlation between the doner and his role in the society, his family relationship and aiso the rapport between him and the receiver. Secondiy, using methodological instruments one can detect how images are organized around the donation act. Through a research, the imagenary showed how it is used to keep bio-phsych-social adjustments that provide a dynamic balance to the doner. The methodology appiied here allowed us to see and reveal remarkable tendencies indicating that there are several driving impulses which altogether constitute a driving force to the donation. At last, one tries to state here that renal doner’s discourse, either under a linear or a simbolic interpretattion, indicates subliminar reasons which go beyond the ones usually accepted as common-sense.
