The soybean crop in Brazil is a leader in production and acreage nevertheless; management adjustments are needed to increase the productivity indexes. The choice of growing regions and adequate plants populations for each cultivar are simple techniques, but which reflect directly on agronomic performance. This study aimed to evaluate the yield of eight soybean cultivars in different edapho climatic regions of Rio Grande do Sul State, in four plant populations. Cultivars evaluated were: FPS URANO RR, FPS JÚPITER RR, FPS ANTARES RR, FPS NETUNO RR, FPS IGUAÇÚ RR, FPS PARANAPANEMA RR, FPS SOLIMÕES RR e BRS TORDILHA RR, getting 150,000; 250,000; 350,000 and; 450,000 plants per hectare respectively. Growing regions were Passo Fundo; Cachoeira do Sul; and Vacaria. Cultural practices were done according to the soybean technical recommendations. Experimental design was a randomized block, with three repetitions and the data were analyzed independently at each growing region. Mean cultivars were compared by Tukey test and the population plants was submitted to polynomial regression. The results of this study demonstrate that the cultivars have different adaptations to different edaphic and climatic regions, and respond differently to population adjustment, so, farmers that seek to maximize productivity should carefully select the cultivars and plant population to be used.
