No. of bitstreams: 1 2006_Tese_VMMELLO.pdf: 4310644 bytes, checksum: 549aa3607268a71f0ea68a49ac12d0d3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006 / This study is about the cultural and educational reform which happened in Japan after the World War II, in comparison to the Brazilian experience, at the same time, i.e. it is about the impact this has caused to Japan, when of the occupation of the armed forces by the Americans, as well as the cultural influence Brazil has gone through, more specifically the city of Fortaleza, both the country and the city have been under direct influence by the North Americans at the same time. The objective of the period chosen is to trace back the threads that wove the individual formation proposition of niponic nationality in the years that followed the W W II. Special emphasis was given to the way the people of the time, who have lived this reform implemented in Japan under military occupation, as well as to the rebuilding of the cultural atmosphere lived in Fortaleza then, in relation to the North American hegemony. This research is based on historiographic, journalistic and oral resources, to place us in the historical period. It highlights the memory of the people who have lived this specific period in order to compare accounts and remembrances to establish connections between the historiographic material and the empirical evidences. This study shows the historical moment in which both the Japanese and Brazilian cultures have assimilated some values based in Western material capitalism, through the consumption and “way of life” of the United States of America to the detriment of their own spiritual and cultural values. This confrontation between Japan and Brazil have brought to the surface some distinct traditions and historical costumes and it is limited to the understanding of the cultural changes which have happened in the two countries under the influence of the North America, which are expressed here amidst the evidences of the strong emotional impact they have caused in our Japanese witnesses. / Este estudo trata da reforma educacional e cultural ocorrida no Japão, no pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial, numa perspectiva comparada em relação à experiência brasileira, no mesmo recorte temporal, ou seja, incide sobre o impacto que causou ao Japão, sob a ocupação das Forças Aliadas representadas pelos EEUU, ao mesmo tempo em que se preocupa com a influência cultural sobre o Brasil e, mais especificamente, Fortaleza, como país e cidade situados sob a área de influência direta daquele País norte-americano. A atenção ao período escolhido tem o intuito de rastrear os fios que teceram a proposta de formação do indivíduo de nacionalidade nipônica nos anos que se seguem ao fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial, com ênfase especial na busca de entendimento sobre o modo como a receberam aqueles que vivenciaram a reforma implementada no Japão, sob ocupação militar, assim como reconstituir a atmosfera cultural vivida então, em Fortaleza, em relação à hegemonia dos norte-americanos. A pesquisa tem apoio em fontes historiográficas, jornalísticas e orais, para situar a autora em relação à problemática histórica enfocada, com destaque para a memória narrada por pessoas que vivenciaram o período em estudo, a fim de comparar relatos e lembranças, e estabelecer conexões entre o material historiográfico e as evidências empíricas. O estudo mostra o momento histórico em que a cultura, tanto no Japão quanto no Brasil, introjetou valores calcados em símbolos materiais do capitalismo ocidental, por meio do consumo e do “way of life” dos Estados Unidos da América, em detrimento de valores espirituais e culturais próprios. Este confronto entre o Japão e o Brasil trouxe à tona tradições e costumes históricos distintos, limitando-se este estudo ao entendimento das mudanças culturais ocorridas nos dois países sob a intervenção e a ascendência dos EEUU, as quais são aqui expressas em meio às evidências do forte impacto sentimental que causaram em nossos depoentes japoneses.
