Veber, Andréia January 2009 (has links)
This research aimed at to investigate the process of inserting music as a curriculum subject in a full-time public school. More specifically, it aimed at: to examine the conceptions of the school community’s members about the practices of school music education; to identify the different musical and musical educational practices developed in/by the school; to understand the contributions of music teaching to the development of an integrated curriculum; and to understand the relationships between music teaching and the school project of holistic education. A qualitative case study with a public state school of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil was carried out. This school is one of schools that are part of the Integrated Public School Project (EPI), in Santa Catarina. Data were collected through observation, semistructured interviews and analysis of written documents. Data analysis was developed by means of establishing a set of categories related to the insertion of music subject in the school curriculum, focusing the occupation of the school “space” and the constitution the “place” of music at school, as well as the schooling process of music. The theoretical framework was constituted by the concept of “school times” elaborated by Gimeno Sacristán (2008), as well as by concepts of full-time education, holistic education and integrated curriculum. Results show that, by analyzing the process of inserting music as a curriculum subject from the perspective of the “school times”, it was possible to understand how happened the confirmation of music in the curriculum of the school, contributing to the conquest of the rightful place of music as a school subject.

This research is a study of the development of the ability to read and write musical language. Its is based on the estudies of Emilia Ferreiro and Ana Teberosky which present the different cognitive levels through which a student passes before being able to understand the alphabet system. It investigates if there are similar levels in the process of learning, reading and writting music notation. The method for this research was centered on six and seven year old piano students. The studyþs time period was not enough to name the levels of learning, but it is possible to say that there are psychological behaviors in the children of this study. This work migh contribute to Music Education as it demonstates hypotheses about reading and writing scores and, mainly, because it contributes to Piano Pedagogy demonstrating that beginner piano students think about the piano scores even before they completely understand them.

O estudo de caso, baseado em entrevistas narrativas, foi a metodologia escolhida para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa / This dissertation has the objective of presenting new perspectives for reflecting on the importance of music and music education in Brazilian schools. Federal Law N. 11769, 2008, provided that music education is to be mandatory during the primary, secondary, middle and high school as a content in the field of Arts. It would thus seem important to propose ways by which music can truly return to everyday school life, especially at Public Schools. Although, there has been in the country since 1971, a potential room to music , its teaching took place in an unequal way, depending on each context; in some cases it was as inexistent. Therefore, it made music very far from the other fields of knowledge. The on-going training of primary and secundary teachers to introduce their students to music would seem to be a desirable and feasible alternative. Even before the educational system has adapted to the new law, this proposal will likely be appropriate, because specifically music educator and teachers in general will be able to work in a cooperative way. In accord, this study defends the musical training of teacher, based on children’s culture. Childhood is studied considering a sociological approach. As a basis, the experience of the educator and ethnomusicologist Lydia Hortelio is described here. One of the aims is to present the ideas and work of this Educator who believes in Playing and in the Traditional Childhood Music as fundamental elements at schooling. The case study methodology, based on narrative interviews, was chosen for developing the study

Processos intersubjetivos na composição musical de crianças : um estudo sobre a aprendizagem criativa / Intersubjective processes in children's music composition: a study about creative learning

Beineke, Viviane January 2009 (has links)
The following research it is based on studies about creative learning, an emergent concept in the Education and Music Education areas, which focuses on the development of creativity on children during learning situation. The aim of the research was to investigate how the creative learning dimension articulates itself on musical composition activities in the primary musical education teaching context. The theoretical framework was build to encompass the children and teacher's perspectives on creative learning. The first one was built on Csikszentmihalyi's systems view of creativity, and reviewed through some researches about practices and children musical concepts focusing on three creative dimensions: the domain - children music ideas; the field - the school's community and the individual - collective and individual background. The second point of view about teacher's perspectives on creative learning focused the teacher's role in the social relationships in class and the dimensions that characterize the creative teaching: the relationships in the classroom, the students' commitment interests and the value of their contribution on musical composition activities. The method consisted on a case study carried out in a 2nd grade primary musical class. The data collection involved: (1) observation and video recording of two blocks of activities during musical composition in the participant class, (2) focused groups with students and (3) semi-structured and reflection interviews using video recordings with the participant class teacher. The results show that the dimensions of creative learning articulate themselves in the composition activities in group, musical presentation and critic on students' productions; in a cycle that starts the stabilization and investigates how the creative learning dimension articulates itself on musical composition activities in the primary musical education teaching context and stabilization of music ideas intersubjectively built in the classroom. Participating in the classes as composers, performers, and critical audience, the children build their identity in the group and become agent of their own learning, building the knowledge collectively that sustains their music ideas, which are revised and enlarged constantly by their musical reflective experiences. It is up to teacher to create the conditions to build an environment of social positive relations of groups learning processes, the commitment in mutual collaboration, interest and valuing the children contributions in class. As time goes on, these social participation ways represent the constitution of a committed community of musical practice and in the negotiation and meaning process of this practice, sharing ways to do and think music that sustains creative learning.
